8:00pm, Sept 7. What, he couldn’t pick Sept 6 or Sept 8? Of course, since he has to request to address the joint session of Congress (normally just for State of the Union address, not requests to spend more of our tax money that we don’t have), hopefully Boehner will have the balls to turn him down.
Pubs have had the debate scheduled for far longer than Obama has been planning this speech. Another one in the “pathetic” column for Obama.
I read this earlier today and quite frankly either this is a serious douche move or one hell of a serious over sight by his scheduling department. Either way he comes out looking really bad.
About the only way to fix it is to come out and say “Whoops we screwed up and will change the day”
I’m not a fan of Obama’s policies, but I honestly can’t see him doing this as a purposeful douche move. Now maybe a staff member or someone else, maybe.
I’m giving it a 50/50 mistake or staff member douche move. I’d throw only a couple percentile toward this being an Obama douche move, anything is possible I suppose.
Nope. The only logical conclusion is that it is a clear message from God that the Republicans don’t need to waste any more hot air debating about nothing.
Just politics; remember this is a very "in your face" admin, and it matters not whether you're the pub side of the aisle, the supreme court, or the American people, you'd better follow the wishes of the Obamanati. Funny that this whole speech is politics, with Obama wanting a joint session of congress for something he could have (and should have 2+ yrs ago) released from his office. Will be interesting to see how much "plan" there is vs how much "speech" with accordant warnings to congress to move on his ideas or be accused of not agreeing being only for political expedience.
That said, I'm sure there are some pubs that would like to just run out the clock with Obama down, in what will soon be the fourth period of the Obama b-ball game.
Scheduling it for the same time as the opening game of the NFL season? That will lower the number of views by WAY more than the republican debate would have.
Wow, what a meaningless complaint. People who are not interested in the debate but what the President will say will watch the President, Democrats. People who are not interested in what the President has to say but what the Republicans have to say will watch the debate, Republicans. A large who group who has heard it all before and no interest in wasting free time watching reruns will watch neither, the rest of us. The market place will decide.
On matters of importance I rank this below the pictures Herbert is posting of Eurobike. A lot lower.
It is amusing to see all the Republicans say it is a douchebag move as if anyone here would expect a different response…
Call it a hunch and I may be going way out on a limb here but when he does change it, the right will still say it was a douchebag move and the left will loudly applause his statesmanship and desire to change politics as usual.
I can tell you that I wouldn’t have watched either the Republican debate or Obama’s speech on Wednesday, and I won’t watch the speech or the NFL game on Thursday.
People that care about presidential debates a year for before an election or a grandstanding joint session of Congress are the same that use to think back in high school that school spirit was meaningful or that the student body government could actually do something. Same for those that care about the latest Washington pissing match.

Time was requested and confirmed Boehner earlier in the day. After the request was made formal, it was “rejected”. What is interesting is that the only thing scheduled that day are votes at 6:30. They could show up to work a bit earlier, nah.
Sorry Obama. Can’t listen to your jobs ideas. Have to listen to Michelle Bachman, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum argue over who hates gays and scientists more.
