Didn’t take long, did it?
About as long as it took to develop Bush Derangement Syndrome, I’d say. You’re surprised that it occurred so soon? Why?
T.
Well Bush did not do much out of the ordinary in his first several months in office. The same can't be said about Obama, or even moreso, some of the things the dem congress is pushing along. Expect it to get much worse, with possibilities of Obama becoming as unpopular, as he was popular.
I don’t recall this level of irrational animosity toward our former president (after the '00 election flap died down) until mid '03.
This really is something to witness; people are literally losing their minds here. Swing sets, gifts, his wife’s attire, his smile - everything about the guy sends these people into convulsions. I’d laugh, but it’s really not funny. It’s depressing to see so many Americans consumed by their hatred.
I recall it.

I recall it, too. I also know that our new digital millennium militates for this being so. There’s no way around it, and I think President Obama understands that and he and his team use it to their advantage better than any other president has, so far.

Me too. I think that if an election was held tomorrow he’s win that one also. ![]()
By a landslide. He’s that popular. I confess to some bafflement over that, but not for reasons you’d suspect.

I agree.
There were many who hated the election results in 2000 but I don’t recall the personal attacks on Bush and particularly Laura Bush. The antagonism against Bush was mainly directed later after Iraq.
I also find it somewhat amusing, watching from afar, that the same people now attacking Obama (ie. Republicans) spent 8 years lamenting the hate on the left. The accusations of not having their own plan and showing nothing but hatred were the common responses to Democrats.
The shoe is certainly on the other foot now and I would also find it disturbing to see so many showing nothing but personal contempt for a sitting President. I can understand the venom when a President takes a country to war but so far, Obama has been incredibly energetic and is at least trying to do something. People may disagree with his policies but I have never seen any Republican at least give him some credit for his efforts.
Instead, all you get are comments about the way his wife looks or his smile. It’s very telling if that is the level of discourse coming from the Republicans and I would suggest it shows they are really becoming irrelevent in American politics. They better change their tactics or they have no chance.
Oh but how strongly some of us wish politicians would QUIT doing things!

You sound like my 3d grader…she wants credit for the effort too, even when the answers are completely wrong.
That may be a bit subtle for you. Let me ask this…George Bush invaded Iraq…that’s a huge effort…lots of energy. Do you credit him for that effort? ![]()
All I can say is you Obama apologists have a very short memory (not so much you Sphere who is always so precisly reasoned and balanced on every issue).
and…as a conservative, why would I be happy about what Obama is doing…and really, I’m supposed to keep my mouth shut and take it?
I also find it somewhat amusing, watching from afar, that the same people now attacking Obama (ie. Republicans) spent 8 years lamenting the hate on the left.
Exactly, which is why I used ODS in the subject line of the OP (Bush Derangement Syndrome is what any and all criticism of the former president was attributed to by these same dittoheads). And to be truthful, I was being melodramatic when I said it saddened me to see all the venom: it’s completely expected and somewhat amusing to see the shoe switch feet after all these years. And, given how much joy these attacks seem to bring these people, it can’t be all bad, right? Everybody deserves to be happy, at least for a few minutes of their day.
Of course, I’d prefer that Americans rally around their president and give them some breathing room, especially when stepping into such a challenging set of problems, but that’s not the reality we live in, and every decision he makes is destined to be controversial, given the ramifications.
That’s still no excuse for his buying his kids a swingset, smiling too broadly, and not driving a prius, though. Hypocritical bastard.
**I’m supposed to keep my mouth shut and take it? **
Of course not. There are decisions of great importance and lasting consequence being made right now, and spirited debate is critical to the process, be it here or in the halls of congress. What’s amusing (if a little irritating) is when the same people who gave president Bush a pass on damn near every major blunder during his tenure, make lame attempts to brutalize the current president over far less significant non-issues.
If I rambled off a diatribe on Bush, would that give me some street cred?
Short memory? Bush was very popular post 9/11 and enjoyed a lot of support for his decision to go into Iraq. The idea that the pace of “ODS” and “BDS” are in any way similar is laughable. There was no one arguing that they wanted Bush to fail less than 100 days into the Presidency or even directly after he took major foreign policy initiatives.
Now, if you are arguing as to the intensity of each “syndrome”, it is arguable that the animosity directed at Bush, once it started in an appreciable way, was more intense/virulent.
It’s not arguable at all, Mike. Bush took far worse than our new president has, so far. Maybe that’ll change down the road, but with an impressive 62 percent (or greater) approval rating, I don’t think B.O. has much to become worried over when it comes to anything emenating from the rightwing folks out there. However, I do remember a lot of braying from the leftwing types about an illegtimate presidency, “he was selected, not elected,” and just about every other lefty distorted worldview version of events. I think many Obama supporters here are getting just a taste of what many on the right in the LR went through for at least a good five or six years. Me? I didn’t mind, and lord knows I look a good fight, figuratively and literally
Others? Who’s to say?

This link would suggest otherwise re: how bad Bush had it early on…
that graph shows Bush having it pretty easy - even his first recession didn’t hurt his approval marks much

No, stupidity isn’t rewarded.
