Oakley Sunglasses - model reccos?

which model of oakley shades do you reccommend? i’ve always owned cheapies, because i tend to ride my toys hard and put them away wet. (i also tend to lose sun glasses). however, i’ve opportunity for a ridiculous discount, so the $ is neither here nor there, so oakley it is.

one thing: i’m a sweaty bastard and am worried a bit about ventilation.

ideas?

For cycling ? Pro M Frames. You won’t mist up if you keep moving.

For running and casual - I like the Half Jackets.

Gotta echo the M-frames (though the Pro-M might not be the way to go). There’s a ventilated lens that might be the ticket for you, but as said, as long as you’re moving, no problem. But it really depends onteh shape of your face. Some people end up with the lenses riding on their cheekbones.

How about the Zeros? I like the no top frame design. My last Oakleys bit it in a crash earlier this year, I was thinking about these as replacements.

If you want them for cycling you can’t do better than M frames. I have a collection of lenses with mine and always buy ventilated lenses for them. As for durability, I am still using lenses that I bought in 1999 and have been most days.

The zeros are good also, but are a little drafty around the edges if ou use them for riding.

I’ve used the Racing Jackets for the past several years.

Pros: Great ventilation, excellent coverage while still offering an excellent range of vision

Cons: Large frames (might not be a con if they fit you); lenses are not interchangeable

If ventilation is key then these will do you well.

M-frames and Racing Jackets.

I’d really like to pick up the new Dartboards, but those will have to wait a few pay checks.

I love the Zero frame – it has no top bar and a big lens, so you get great coverage and can see well when you are in your aerobars. The half jackets I used were difficult to see out of when in the aerobars b/c of the top bar. Try a bunch on to see which frame works best.

M-frames for sure, try them on and take not that different colors fit different. Any standard finish frame fits the largest, full metal jacket (frosted metallic look) colors are a little tighter and the chrome finish is the tightest. Pro M-frames are super cool and fit a bit looser than regular M-Frames, are easier to put on while riding and easier to stick in your helmet but a pain to stick in a jersey pocket. Awesome shade, no vision blockage at the bottom of the lenses. Lots and lots of lense choices, tints, shades, polarized, shapes…

Racing Jackets rule as well but interchangeable lenses would be nice…

Half Jackets probably outsell M-Frames as they look a lot more normal and offer 95% of the performance that the M-Frames do. Interchangeable lenses and cheaper lense replacements. Also if the Half Jackets are too close to your face and hit your eyebrows or cheekbones, they make a large set of nose pieces which moves the frame away from your face. Most shops have no idea these are availabe but they are if you ask around.

I’m sponsored by them btw… I owned M-Frames and thought that’s all I ever needed then the sponsorship happened and now I have a mini collection. M-Frames are still my personal fav though

got some m’s a while back for dirt cheap, and yes, they’re durable, but try the different lens sizes. I find the strikes juuust right (think goldilocks). But for running, nothing beats my old zero’s (I think they still have them as golf zeros etc. 0.4 square)

have some friends who wear things similar to the jackets on bike rides and they like 'em a lot. (they dont fit my face)

Do any/all of these come in prescription models, with an insert? If not, any recommendations on best for the near-sighted? Most interested in not having vision blockage at the top of the lense when down in the aeros – the less blockage the less strain on ones neck muscles.

Good luck finding those.

I don’t know if you can do prescription in Oakley Zeros but if you can they would be a good bet. I can look through the little vent holes in the top of my racing jackets when in an aero tuck if that helps…

oakleys have inserts, but the stupid optometrist in my area says they can’t do them for my strength (-5.00), although I thought I saw a thread here about someone who did get them done pretty strong…

rudy, adidas too, but if you want to solve this clearance issue, check these out (if you’re not wearing contacts like me; which are convenient but when they start getting blurry on fast descents, its a tad hairy)

(if you get them, let me know I’D LOVE to hear how they are - I would have to do it mail order)
