Oakley Being Purchased By Luxottica

Hello All,

.

I hope that they continue sponsoring all of their Top Fuel and Funny Cars that I enjoy watching. Without Jim Jannard at the helm, that may go away.

I’m an oakley fan and have bought many of their stupid overpriced products over the years.

I wonder what their markup is - not at the retail level, but what it actually costs them to MAKE a pair of sunglasses that sell at retail for $400.

Now isn’t that ironic. When Luxottica bought out most of the other sunglass brands and then Sunglass Hut, Oakley urged their faithful customers to buy direct from them rather than at Sunglass Hut.

Working at Oakley would be my dream job hopefully nothing changes, I am a huge fan.

Boy, I wished I would have heard this yesterday morning. Looks like the usual stock bump for the bought company, and the drop in the buying company, has played out…I guess wallstreet thinks it’s a bad deal at some level, wonder what the debt of Oakley was??? Anyone know if they were in trouble before the sale??? They were one of my very first sponsors, so I have some affinity towards the company…

I think I will be surprised if this deal goes through, but I can see both sides to this.

Wow a slowtwitcher that Likes NHRA! Sweet!

Jannard, 57, will continue as chairman and “chief mad scientist,” a spokesman said, and headquarters will remain in Foothill Ranch.

Jim will still have a say and my inside source say little will change…

That’s good. With Scelzi retiring at the end of the year, I was wondering if he had gotten some advanced notice of future changes. It’s great to have such a powerful businessman as Jannard involved in that wonderful eye-burning, ear destroying sport ;-o

Scelzi was on Bubba a week ago and he has been asked to stay. He said he is considering it if a plane or jet deal could be worked out.
Lets keep our fingers crossed!

Yes, Scelzi’s a great racer, as good an interview as anyone, even Force, and just seems like the kind of guy you’d like to sit down and drink some beer with. In my world, that’s the standard

That would be great! Their U.S. base is just down the road from me and they have an “outlet” retail type store. Would love to pick up some Oakleys there!

The Guerrilla Communication company was just bought by Google for $1,000,000. (Well, in my dream)

Not a bad growth after only a few months.
