O.T.: Favourite Tall Boy Beer/Malt Bevvie

If I’m rocking the 2-4 its gonna be Budweiser. If its a 40oz its got to the The Olde E, in a brown bag of course (cause its so discreet). So to break it down by 40’s:

  1. Olde English

  2. Mickey’s

  3. St. Ide’s

  4. Country Club

I love me a big bottle of bud but it just doesn’t count as a 40oz.

Funny, Windsor is where I enjoyed my last Brickard’s. . .about 8 years ago now. A friend of mine’s brother was graduating Guelph so we drove up from Charleston, SC. I ended up partying all night with my friend’s brother. . .anyway. . . One of these days I plan to get back up that way. . .

Actually guys…it’s Rickards…not Brickards (you’re thinking about what you do when you drink several of them back to back without stopping, that would make it a brick workout with Rickards Red…hence Brickards) and I totally agree with you. Given the choice there is none else. Anything Sleeman runs a distant second (their new steam beer is pretty tasty too)

I used to work with a guy who would only drink tallboys because, as he put it, “12 ounces just isn’t worth opening.”

I have to make a pitch for King Cobra 32’s here though. Perfect brew, perfect size. More fun than an tallboy but you don’t have that last 8oz get warm sitting in your lap like you do with a 40.

I am a beer snob, I admit it. Even used to be employed to fly over to Europe to visit breweries and try to get them to sign importation contracts. Belgian Beer and German beer as a whole are heads and tails above the world in brewing classic beers with regional interpretations.

With all that said, I do have a hankerin’ for some mass produced crap evey once in awhile. Coors Yellow can actually ain’t that bad (got plenty of GABF medals to prove that). But i really enjoyed Black Label, a small Candien Beer when i was in college. can’t find it anywhere in NorCal now. Any ideas?

As for 40’s. I used to be a Olde E man. But there was an Indian Theme 40 that was decent- even had a smoky flavor. I think it was IronHorse or something?

Well, then the version I had was DEFINITELY Brickards. . .I lost count at 8. . .20oz’ers. Apparently I can’t remember the name correctly, but I remember falling down. . .

Can you get it at Beverages and More? If they don’t have it in stock they can special order quite a few beers. I got Skull Splitter (Orkney Island) and Cascade (Tasmania) from them in a few weeks.

Man… Crazy Horse. Everyone I know has a story about drinking that stuff and none of them are the least bit good. There was something truly evil in there.

There was a time I had the 8-Ball rollin’ but no more. I still like a Bud tallboy though.

I thought Black Label was produced in Cincinnati??? Am I wrong??? How about some good Hamm’s or Wiedemann’s or even Old Style??? They have Old Style here for $1.50/can for all of the Cubs fans. Can’t beat that.

I heard about that Crazyhorse stuff. Used to be a rumor that it was illegal in California when I was the kid. It sounds like trouble to me…

Give me a hair of the dog, fred, magnum (750 ml). 10% alkeehol (barley wine). Goodnight.

I was in high school in SF from 1988-1992 and you could get Crazy Horse if you really wanted to. Most people I knew only really wanted to 1 time, then never went back…

I would have to go with a Brass Monkey in this case. Drink an OE to the label and fill with Orange Juice. Deliciously ghetto fabulous!

Could not find Colt 45 tonight, had to settle for Icehouse, which is in a Malt liquor-type of class of it’s own. Red Dog is like that, as well. But the ice beer is stronger, even if it’s horribly out of style.

I have a tavern sign for Schlitz Malt Liquor somewhere. Yes, in my day, they sold it in bars!!!

After careful review. . .there IS one brand of American beer that I will drink in whatever quantity I find it. . .though not on a routine basis. .

Pabst Blue Ribbon. . .

The last one I had was at Hogs-N-Heffers bar in New York City. Seems you weren’t allowed to buy Jack Daniels until you had primed the pump with a good old PBR. Damn. . .There is a lot to be said for a good biker bar. . .That is MOTOR biker bar. . .I’m not sure it would be wise to saunter into a place like that in technicolor lycra. . .

You da man!!!

PBR? me ASAP!!!

A great bar/restaurant in Scottsdale, AZ has it on tap for $1.25. I either drink Old Style or PBR when I am in there. It is awesome. I went there last night and had 5 Old Style’s and all the peanuts I could eat for $6.25. You can’t beat that.

I kid you not, I went to a Denny’s that had it’s own bar on the side of the restaurant and they had PBR on tap. I was in heaven - nothing like Moons over My Hammy washed down with a frosty PBR.

And don’t forget one of the greatest movie quotes ever from Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet…

"Heineken? F#%$ that sh%t! Pabst Blue Ribbon!!!

colt 45…

it works…every time…
