NYT’s Top 100 TV Shows of the 21st Century

there are some good ones on that list.

  • succession. brilliant but i couldn’t finish. the father hit a little too close to home for me. wife finished and she loved it.
  • fleabag, excellent
  • six feet under. almost forgot that one. such a great cast and so well done. then he became dexter…
  • chernobyl. words cannot describe. the tension created in that show was unbelievable. if you still like books, highly recommend ‘voices from chernobyl’. first hand accounts that was the basis for most of the show.
  • white lotus. yes
  • lost. first season good. could have gone somewhere really amazing. but then it got, lost
  • black mirror. yes
  • severence. oh my god yes. love that it’s filmed locally and the old att/bell labs building they use has to be the best location ever.
  • andor. this is the best thing to happen to star wars in recent memory. how they could produce something as good as this while also putting out the mandalorian/bobba fett crap is beyond me.
  • schitt’s creek. double yes
  • the pitt. eh. whatever. ok not great. berlin er on apple is soooo much better
  • watchmen. loved this. wish it had continued.
  • hacks. very good. well deserved emmy
  • peaky blinders. amazeballs. his new project, house of guinness, is equally good.
  • bojack. yes
  • slow horses. fantastic. best role for gary oldham in years. he’s perfect. there’s only 6 books in the series so a little bummed it’s close to the end.
  • bourdain. yes. he should be higher on the list. tremendous loss that he isn’t still around. highly recommend the movie, tony. if you are familiar with his background and the shows, there are some surprise cameos.
  • beef (s1), squid game, the bear. all yesses.
  • ted lasso. just feel good fun
  • always sunny. yes
  • shogun. great book. series did it justice. cinematography fantastic. well done.
  • community. absolutely.

I don’t get it. Fargo has a number of really, really good seasons. Only one I thought was subpar was season 4.

As others have said, season 1 of True Detective is excellent, should be in contention for the top spot.

I thought I watched too much TV. Clearly not as much as most people. Plenty of the shows I have no idea.

the Comeback doesn’t belong anywhere near the top 50 in that list

If you played along last week, you get a fun image. 19-30 was my sweet spot, I’ve seen the highest percentage of that block.

The AI bots at NYT took them out for “selfish reasons”

The People’s Vote:

Readers Choose Their Top TV Shows of the 21st Century - The New York Times

Gilmore Girls the 26th best show of this millennia??? Avatar is better (the critics really don’t like animation)

Lots of recency bias with readers though

Fargo should 1000% be on this list, and high on it…

Shout out to Reservation Dogs. We absolutely loved that show! It’s one of those “laughing hysterically one minute, crying the next minute” shows.

Off the top of my head, the one show that I think could have squeezed into the top 100 is Shoresy. It’s not for everyone, and the humor is pretty lowbrow, but it’s got some heart too.
