NYT article about electronic groupset debut at TOC

Fascinating:

I want to talk bad about electronic shifting, but fact is I like the idea of what it can do. Automatic trimming would be awesome. Now paying $4k for a group is something I’m not up to. It would need to be half that before I’d consider swapping my Campy 10 for electronic anything.

I was sceptical about the electronic group until I got to try it. It shifts perfectly, front and rear, while sprinting, requires no adjustment, is much leass likely to comeo ut of adjustment… It was shockingly good. $4k, however, it really steep.

Agreed 100%. I’d really like this to gain traction so that it’ll eventually become “affordable” for plebs like us. Like the article mentions, I also think electronic shifting would be a major addition for the tri market.

Have Browning Electronic not been making servo gears for years?

I’d always assumed it never took off because it was intrinsically a bad idea. Just another thing to go wrong.

I’m amazed that TFA suggests that shifting gears causes the rider to become less aero, even more so that I’m driven to distraction by trimming the double clanger. Perhaps I’m doing it wrong.
