NYC Triathlon Coaches

Any recommendations for triathlon coaches in NYC? My girlfriend is looking someone who can help her with: 1) bike handling skills (she’s only been riding about 2 years), 2) a training plan for the NYC marathon (she’s a good runner and looking to qualify for Boston) and 3) a strength training regimen for triathlon. She wants someone in NYC she can work with in person on a weekly or monthly basis.

jonathan cane or chris bergland.

You can also try Jason at functionally innovative training. Ihave been working with him since last summer and I enjoy his knowledge and his hands on approach. his site is vo2testing.com

I second the recommendation for Jon Cane. He’s an excellent coach for anyone from a complete beginner to an experienced ironman contender. Jon is coaching several of the training programs for our store, including a training program for the NYC marathon this summer, to rave reviews. Cycling is one of his strengths as an athlete and as a coach, and if I’m not mistaken he’s the author of “Strength Training for Dummies.” Whenever I or anyone I know has asked Jon for advice he’s always got a well thought out answer – even if he has to consult his large network to get it because he doesn’t know it himself. Jon is great one-on-one, very down to earth, friendly and unintimidating. He’s also one of the most dedicated coaches I’ve met – up at midnight answering emails before meeting a group for a half-marathon the next morning at 6:30.

I’d also recommend Scott Willett. Scott is an extremely experienced athlete and coach, great with beginners but very capable training people at any level. Scott has been involved in Triathlon a lot longer than most, and is a veteran of many Ironman races, Survival of the Shawangunks, and many, many long distance open water swims. Scott is one of those all-around phenominal athletes, but unlike most gifted athletes, he can actually coach. He can teach people who don’t have the same gifts how to develop the skills & strength & endurance through practice. He has been the coach of the NYU Tri team for quite a while, and is also the head tri coach for Team in Training. I’d have to dig up his email address, so message me if you’re interested in contacting him.
