NYC Marathon SPOILER

Radcliffe wins with a 300m sprint after Kepcamia(sp) surged time and again in the last 3 miles. PAULA IS BACK.

How about the guys? Who won? I felt asleep…

No idea, 2 kenyans and a South African were in front after 90 mins. I guess Google could help.

Sweet!

Her win proves how smart it is to sometimes drop out and avoid long-term damage and loss of fitness, especially if there’s no chance to medal.

“Run away and live to fight another day” is sometimes very, very smart

Congrats to Paula!

Did Lance run?

Hendrik Ramaala finally won a big marathon, I was happy for the guy. Also what a year for Keflezighi, 3rd at the Olympics and second today on his 4th marathon of the year. Crisis in US long distance running? I don’t see any crisis…

You really think jogging in the last three miles at a nice easy pace and FINISHING would have hurt her? I don’t. Always finish unless you are hurt. Quitting ain’t cool.

She was in serious heat stress. It seemed like she did the right thing to me. I thought she pushed it too far as it was.

No… what is not cool is to talk about people who you don’t know just because they’re in the news… It is her life, she can assumer her responsibilities and is none of your business.

Pure character! Way to go Paula!!

Dave from VA

They said when she stopped in Athens she had trouble walking. She said she wasn’t in any pain, but more of a numb feeling throughout her body.

I want to see you push yourself to that point then come and talk.

I’m not knocking her at all. If she was sick or hurt by all means she should stop, going on would be dumb. My point was directed to pros in endurance sports who quit when things aren’t going perfect but they are not injured or seriously ill. I don’t think there is any honor in quitting under those circumstances.

I have. I stopped and walked a bit and finished the race.

Did Lance run?
his former wife did
.

They said she couldn’t walk so that answers your question right there…

Are you near the same level as Paula? Because you know, being an age grouper or an elite athete is just not the same…

As for jogging to the finish, I can relate to that personally.

During my first atempt at the marathon I had a hamstring pull at around 25k. I thought about stopping, but thought that it would be a nice acomplishment to finish my first marathon. So I jogged from 25k to the finish. I was going for a 2:55 and ended up with 3:32. When I finished I felt completely empty inside. I felt like I had acomplished NOTHING. And felt really stupid for doing that. Now I’m a MOP’er, I can’t even imagine how an elite athlete might feel.

No. You did accomplish something. You finished what you started. I may be in the moinrity but I think that means something.

How about PNF when she collapsed and looked to be in serious trouble. She sat, cooled off, recovered, and finished. That’s tough. I really respect and admire that.

My point is that I didn’t feel I acomplished something… I don’t care about what other people thing and Paula shouldn’t either.

About PNF that year, she should have been DQ’ed for outside assistance, but that’s another story.

To each his own. I always feel good about finishing even if my day went to crap.
