any advice for someone who just cant seem to take in any fluids or calories while running without getting a really bad “stitch”. Ive done only international distance and can drink about one bottle of water/electrolyte on the bike and even take a gel while riding, but once i start to run I literally cant drink or eat without getting a really bad cramp that slows me down considerably (run my 10k in about 42 min). I have tried to take in more on the bike to compensate but have actually thrown up twice while riding in races.
I have my first 70.3 planned this year and know that if i dont drink/get calories on the run i’ll probably crash hard.
I tend to find that if I really DEEP belly breathe I can flex my diaphram and get rid of the little pains that sometimes hit my stomach muscles. I rarely get stitches but do occ. get little pains for a few moments. I deep breathe and it helps get rid of them. Try it on the bike as well.
What you’re taking in for an oly is plenty.
In a half, you’re going to be racing at a lower percentage of your threshold, so you ought to be able to take in more. Practice on your long runs.
that makes sense…if i slow down my run…maybe i can digest a bit better
