Nutrition and stand-alone half-marys

I’ve got my first one coming up and I’m looking to run it in around 85 minutes based on training and my 10k time. Would there be benefit in taking a gel during the race?

I’ve done long runs up to 1:45 and haven’t used gels, but I think I should try.

You shouldn’t need anything during the race, especially if you have a light breakfast in the morning. You’re only going to burn around 1300-1400 during the race calories so you should have plenty in you muscle stores.

Just a little gatoraide if you want, I go without in the 1/2 marathons I do.

I have done with and without and haven’t really noticed a difference. If anything, maybe take a gel just a bit before the start…I’ve done that too.
