Numbness in feet (1)

I did my first 1/2 this weekend and during the run from about miles 1-6 or 7, it felt like I was pinching a nerve in my lower back or something and my feet were numb. It didn’t really affect my performance but it was weird as this has never really happened in any of my bricks. Does anyone know what could cause this numbness. I could tell my lower back was a little sore on the bike, but that’s happened before on long rides.

This happened to me in my last race. It was a sprint, and the bike leg was very hilly. I came to the conclusion that it was from my cleat position in combination with the hills. I fiddled around with my cleats and haven’t had as much of a problem. But it sure was uncomfortable during the race.

I can second the cleat position causing your feet to go numb. It may not be the case for you though if your back was aching as well. I would consider seeing a chiropractor if it continues. My chiropractor always used to work with my feet and my back simulataneously, the nerves are all connected.

Just to clarify, the numbness in my feet didn’t show up until a little ways into the run. They felt fine during the bike.

Might you have cranked down on your laces too hard at T2? I did that once and had the numb feet problem. I usually do simple, dumb things like that.

I don’t think so because I tie my shoes once when I buy them and then never again so I just slip them on and off. I really think this had something to do with something in my back. I’ve had some numbness in the lower extremities (read a@@, thighs) before but never in the feet and not usually for several miles.

Is it possible it might have something to do with my weird gait? My foot lands pointed outward but then I pronate some. And yes I have proper shoes.
