Number of Finishline Violations at Cal. 70.3

Thought it might be fun to see if anyone can guess the number of people who violated the new finishline policy at Oceanside. I can tell you that someone was posted from the first finisher to the last and any violators were DQ’d as promised. I know because I was the volunteer timing captain and I handed the tally sheet to the head timer myself.

Closest guess wins a strong sense of satisfaction.

So this was an auto DQ? Or did it come with an “time penalty”.

I’m guessing 73

Hard guess… Tons of dudes running shirtless and a bunch with headphones not counting any family finishes. I’d say 27…

I’ll guess 13, but I wouldn’t be suprised if it were much more.

For the Super Dad types some may do that as sort a “protest”. Yes, a protest against the injustice of not being allowed to run across the finish line with little Billy Jr.

I would be suprised to find out that any podium spots were lost because of the rule.

I would guess over 200. As most only want a shirt and or a time and could give a shit if WTC lists them as an official finisher or not…unless you keep the medal and family photo finishes from them.

20?

What were the new finish line policies?

I was standing near the entry to the finishing chute for much of the afternoon. I remember maybe a dozen, but really lost count. The worst was the guy carrying a couple of kids and having a couple more carrying a banner in front of him! The announcers were definitely NOT doing anything to discourage the practice, that’s for sure!

Something like, all racers arent allowed to bring in “outside” support. IE, you cant hold your kid’s hand and run across the finish line. More of a safety issue to keep the racers on the race course, and the fans in the fan section. I dont know exactly what the penalty was, but the OP suggests its and auto DQ?

What have you been smoking?

Any DQ’s for no shirt policy? I saw at least 2 that should have been.

Ha. I know a person who did Kona “The day before”…and claims to have done Ironman Hawaii…I suppose he did.

You are just bitter that the new “policy” will prevent you from winning our bet that you can’t cross the line at IMMOO pushing estee in a baby buggy

That I don’t know. Not my area. We did send several people back who were wearing headphones as they were leaving the TA. We weren’t officials, but we did remind people of the rule. Some of them couldn’t hear us.

Duuuuuude stop keeping us in suspense!!

I’m going to guess 27.5, with the .5 coming from the guy who ALMOST crossed, and then remembered the rule, and told his kids to go home, because dad doesn’t want them there anymore.

Why can’t we just have a lane to one side for the family finishers (instead of DQs)? That way they can saunter in with the posse, and as long as they stay in the lane, no issues (that way I can sprint in in the clear and take back some of the 5min. I lost walking aid stations).

The stacking of rules is getting a bit out of hand; what’s next, a ban on carrying large flags?

Surely the only people participating in this “race” were really fast and therefore deeply affected by such a rule!

Dude, get a f-n life. You aren’t even an official and you are busy “policing” the race. Give me a break. The sport is supposed to be fun. Not ruined by sideline dicks like you.
