out of curiosity, how many people have had to improvise making a waste band to hold their numbers and how? (porte dossard in french)
Cut off the band from your boxers/briefs. Works well.
Is a waste band used to hold the Depends?? Might be kinda bulky during the run.

its ok, i took an old bike helmet strap and made one from that. 
Last weekend at breezy point I realized I left my race belt in Michigan and I am extremely cheap. So I pullet the two strings out of the race packet bag, tiec them in a square knot, tied one end to my number and attached a twist tie they gave me for my bike number on the other end. It was almost as easy to use as my elastic one and definitely lighter!
