NSAIDS and cardiovascular health

People who race and train on NSAIDS because they are “harmless” should reconsider:

BMJ 2005;330:1366 (11 June), doi:10.1136/bmj.330.7504.1366
Risk of myocardial infarction in patients taking cyclo-oxygenase-2 inhibitors or conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: population based nested case-control analysis

Julia Hippisley-Cox, professor of clinical epidemiology and general practice1, Carol Coupland, senior lecturer in medical statistics1

There are now multiple studies out there (among the Nottingham study those by G. Singh in Stanford - unpublished) suggesting that NSAIDS have “non neutral” effects on the cardiovascular system (e.g. significant increase of risk for a heart attack).

If this is holding up it will have a huge impact on healthcare, considered the widespread and “thoughtless” use of those substances.

Please make yourself familiar with those studies if you are “popping” NSAIDS on a regular basis.
