Now THIS is a handy "tool"!

I was in a bike accessories store today that I used to frequent, and picked up a FiberFix Spoke. For $15, it’s damn good insurance in my toolbag. I hope to never have use for it, but if I ever do need it, I’ll be glad I have it!

Where did you get it from??

I bought it at a store in Toronto called Velotique. http://www.velotique.com/tool-hs.htm

They do mail order if you can’t find it locally (which is possible - I’d never seen it in person before, though I’d heard of such a product)

well mr Khai, i dont want to be an ass :stuck_out_tongue:

but, i dont think spokes brake at an middle section

but you will never know

Besides, that is totally non aero, hehe
.

Sure they do… and why does it matter, it looks like you remove the broken spoke completely and replace with this thing.

I’ve never had a spoke break but can’t you still ride with the rest of them? It’s only like 1 out of whatever? Can’t the others hold the wheel up?

Try that with a low spoke count wheel - you can have trouble getting the buckle past your brakes even if you open them up to the max

Since breaking a spoke and turning my dura aces into a taco I now carry one of these!! only weigh a few g’s & take up no room at all

I got mine from greenspeed in auz.

I can attest that it is possible to (very carefully) ride a low-spoke count wheel back home with one spoke missing! I did on a training ride, after one of the 20 spokes on my rear Ksyrium SSC wheel broke, near the hub, on the radially-laced drive side.

The wheel immediately went severely out of true and rubbed against both the brake and the frame’s left chainstay.

Using my trusty Leatherman tool, I loosened the 2 nearby spokes a bit so the wheel would at least clear the left chainstay. Luckily, I wasn’t far from home when it happened. I left the rear brake caliper open and rode slowly, carefully back home …probably the slowest 10km I’ve ever ridden on a bike!
Got the spoke replaced and the wheel properly trued at my LBS the day after.

Due to the ‘special’ construction of the Ksyrium spokes, I don’t think the above FiberFix spoke would be of any use on that wheel.

Just for that I’m gonna build up an 808 with these babies and stick it on your bike in transition!

dude, i dont have a bike

so i want to ask…what bike? :frowning:

Mr Sergio - dont want to be an ass but spokes don’t brake - they break

That’s a great little store - no bikes, just bike accessories, and friendly staff.

I heard that they (finally) found it - so I figured that I’d have plenty of time to get parts and build the wheel before it makes it back your way…

What are you riding these days? Surely you must have a loaner or something in the meantime? I’d offer you one of mine, but I’m guessing you aren’t fond of the “circus bear” look…

I’ve heard that these don’t actually hold together in actual use.

I love that store! They sell XC ski equipment in the winter as well. They stock good product, and have great prices on nutritional goods to boot.

The staff rocks.

Courtney, if you’re reading this, I love you.

(thankfully) I can’t speak to that - but they are endorsed by Peter White as well as Sheldon Brown, so I’m willing to bet that whoever told you that (or experienced it) messed up the install.

Their prices are awesome, especially considerring they’re a Toronto store (which are usually WAY overpriced). I love going in anytime I’m in Toronto, just to wonder around and look at the goodies.

I dont know if Kysiriums really count as low spoke counts in this day and age:

Dura aces at 16 spokes or whatever they were
http://www.rolfprima.com/products/vigor_sl.html 14 spokes or even
http://www.rolfprima.com/products/carbon_tt.html 10 spokes…

My broken Dura aces wouldnt clear the FRAME let alone the brakes!! These might sound like a paranoid persons toy, but having one would have saved me a nice long walk carrying my bike in the countryside :frowning:

I’ve only ever had one spoke break and it was on my 16 spoke count front wheel. Still made it home ok, though talk about a wonky wheel! Had to open the brakes all the way and tied the spoke in a knot around another one because I couldn’t get it out…

I’ll have to get 2 for my Hed3c and disc!
