Now that I'm in a boot

So, just got the nasty news today that I’m out 8 weeks due to a stress fracture in my foot. Anyone have any good ideas of what I can do so I don’t blow up like a cow and have my muscles rot away. Whatever it is it has to be non weight baring. This "F"ing sucks!

Water running, swimming with no wall pushes and a pull buoy.

Devlin’s got it right. I swim at the college pool here and one of the guys on the team is in a boot. I haven’t seen what he does in the pool but the coach obviously has come up with something, so you have no excuses.

Kidding! Best of luck for a speedy recovery. Just think of all the wear and tear on your body you’re saving!

Oh, and mind your diet. Remember that you’re burning fewer calories now so you can’t shovel in the food like you used to.

I’m mostly worried about the food. I feel so sorry for my wife. I’m going to be so irritable with all the calorie restricting. Looks like I’m going to have a ton of pool time…

I thought you were coming to Canada…

I was at Canada and am registered for IM Canada 2010. Not sure who you are Kai?

Pool run! Hooray! Mind numbingly boring but very very effective. This article is an excellent summary and how-to, and has a good training plan in it.

Check with your doctor but you should be able to bike (obviously you’ll have to take the boot off for that…)

On a side note… why are you worried about gaining so much weight? Shouldnt your appetite be suppressed if you are working out less? If you are eating the right kinds of foods, you shouldnt feel the need to over eat…

I was in a boot for 8 weeks earlier in the year(surgery on my achilles tendon). I swam, alot, with a pull buoy. I water ran(yuck) and was able to ride my trainer after a couple of weeks. And i lifted. Ask about the elliptical…
