November Swim Challenge: 19th year of November Swim Challenges

that’s a lot of fly! nice.

overall improvements over here, doing PT, getting more time sitting and standing upright and finding it exhausting (though less and less so each day). I look forward to horizontal water time which may come sooner than I think given the serious upswing things have taken since Thurs AM.

I love you all!

youre a trooper, and hope that comes for you soon

had a nice day yesterday, did a bit of walking near the beach and rested near an ocean pool. then went for a body surf in the ocean, first of the season and been awhile. real messy day with a big southerly tow / drag but a few fun ones out there.

went down to the pool before dinner as was a bit restless at home and did a hair over 2km. swam 10x100 with a friend , had side by side lanes. then a little bit more.

Thank you, @waverider101 . The support here makes a difference.

PT done for the AM! I have a PT appointment later too.

no problem. do you have an aqua pool, like hot waters and sauna jets near you?

today did 550 easy warm up loosening
6x50 6x100 5x200 (just trying to build back my aerobic cruising back. feel a bit whack but finally started to feel the groove towards the end. at moment my main cue is feeling good on my left stroke out in front, feeling the glide and wedging effect. right side breather. working on stroke count swimming, keeping head facing downwards / looking at bottom of pool, doing good turns. pick up effort a bit more last 2 x 200s (finish with a 235 and 231)
50 faster 25 sprint

200 easy

Missed a couple days since I was around a lot of sick people, trying to keep my immune system on high alert to avoid any prolonged illness creeping in. High pool was not as hot as sat, only about 84.5 today and felt ok to go some 200’s:

300/200/100buoy@1;30base with a 150/100/50frog inbetween @2;00base. (4;22/2;49/1;20) kicks(3;51/2;51/;53)

3400SCY in 65 minutes

was in for about 55 minutes today, wanted to stay longer to avoid commencing work but alas didnt have time

did this today

600 warm up
5x200 free just hold steady get going 4x100 faster than before 4x100 faster again 5x50 (fast 400 type effort)
swim down

been trying this thing which is dive in, see how far you can glide, pop up in streamline, then do a single fly stroke and see how far you can glide again holding streamline. a bit pointless but something to do. ive got a really bad dive so hopefully this game will teach me a thing or two for when sprints come back around. got about 21m today, but reckon i can do better and maybe can get 25m on a perfect day

therapy pool that’s like 93 degrees is accessible at some point!
talked w PT about that and right now the goal is back to pain free daily life and getting to 8 min of easy upright bike before pool. Pool just involves a lot more moving w all the changing and stuff vs bike at home.

over did it the past 2 days and am resting today, no PT as all the activity had me in pain overnight

but overall things are improving for me!!!

love all y’all

covid shot yesterday, chills fever and body aches today…
swim planned but did not happen, maybe tomorrow…

TC happy to hear things are improving and admire your perseverance.

Got in 3400 SCY in 64 minutes.
1000 FR (14:38)/200 IM K
10x100P on 1:30 (1:15-18)/200 IM K
8x50 on 60, IM order (39-49)/200 IM K
4x50 on 60, 8x25 FR on 30 (18’s)

I’m on a performance plateau with 3 swim workouts/week totaling 10k-11k SCY, but unwilling to do more swim and sacrifice bike and run time. Will try to add in winter weight sessions (3x/week 30 min) as preventive maintenance for Spring/Summer. Worked OK last year.

Hey PP, have to ask, dont you ever get bored doing the basically same workout every swim? I guess if you only real goal is just to be in triathlon OW swim shape it is a good workout, but man I would get so bored doing that same thing 3 times a week…Could be the reason for the performance plateau??You ever think about a masters swim meet, you certainly are fast enough to give it a good go?

I got in today and was actually sore from yesterday, not sure why but got through it and eventually got some stroke speed in:

2X(3x200buoy or pull@3;10/3;00/200frog@4;00)buoys(2;56/53/48)pulls(2;34/31/28)frogs(3;45/42)

aw you been working at all, working from the tigerchik pad?

today was about 20 minutes of floating, warming up
6x50 6x100 100 200 300 400 (had massive belly ache pains, whole body pain from being so tired so that was fun) then 400 or so of different strokes

Felt like crap on drive to pool, then hit 86 degree water so just did some mindless yardages:

2x(1000p@14;00/300frog@6;00) pulls(13;43/13;07)kicks(5;46/5;41)
5x100p@1;30(1;20/18/17/17/14)200frog@4;00(3;44)

A sport that hasn’t made it your shores is starting now, test cricket. It’s a game played over 5 days

First test started yesterday

Did the mixer set today two rounds of
4x50 2x100 200 300 then 50 easy (50s are trying hard
1 2 and 3s are just that like build up tiredness but not fast and trying to hold a stroke count
Then 4x50 fast then desc 1-3 3x100

10 minutes of easy swim

I tried to watch cricket when I spent many months in NZ, but it was just a slower version of our baseball, which I also dont watch. Aren’t the big matches over 6 days too?? Sorry but dont think it will ever come to our shores, unless we import a few million Indians… (dot 0f course)

Pool down a degree today to just 85 and I felt like a fresh pile of poo, not like an old stepped in pile that was me yesterday. Figured I would work on breast today, thinking about my 200…

3x100buoy@1;40(1;28/27/25)3x100frog@2;10(1;57/54/52)
3x(100 breast@2;10/2x50breast@1;10/200p@3;30) Breast(1;38/1;34/1;30)50’s(44+/44/44/43+/43/43)pulls(2;37/35/36)

I swam every day in November so far, but between work stress and entire family sick this week it caught up with me, so I decided I need to take a day out of the pool today. I hope to be back at it tomorrow!

I did a fun distance set the other day in the 50LCM pool

12 x 300 as (50free-200IM-50fly) on 7 minutes

If I swim a lot of breast and fly it seems to help me not lose a lot of bike fitness when I can’t get to bike or have less time for biking.

As for Cricket not sure about US but here in Canada, it is mainly all Indian and West Indians playing. I see Aus are chasing a 522 run total from India in Perth. I am kind of looking forward to being in NZ in a few weeks since I will get to see coverage of the England vs NZ as well as Aus vs India test matches.

Monty it is a bit like watching paint dry since it is typically 5 days (maybe akin to watching 4 rounds of golf…you either get off on it or you don’t) or since we are on the swim thread it would be like two people doing a 5x English Channel crossing race (or maybe its like following RAAM).

Had a horrible feeling day yesterday and did not do my usual 3 mile run. Felt much better today and had an OK swim, temp is down around 84 now and manageable.

Yes I think its difficult to explain the interest of ‘regional’ sports to people who are not from that region. But thankfully Aus were put out there misery and only lost the game by 300 runs. And I am not sure what the baseball equiv of that is, but its a disgraceful beating on home soil. England are playing in NZ, so NZ would be hoping for the win at home no doubt.

Kiwis love their sport. We were unfortunate enough to be there one time the All Blacks beat the Wallabies. The casual Kiwi fan is not, how do I put it, backward coming forward in that situation, speaking to an Australian.

5x200, 5x100IM, 5x50
evening swim, all-day crisis call at work the last several days so no lunch hour to work out in… boo.
both calf muscles cramped in first 200, off and on after that. feet cramped in fly and back on the IMs. by the 50s I wasn’t even trying to make the intervals
hr stayed under 150 despite working quite hard.
better luck next time says he hopefully.

my fringe sport, is watching the Amabokke play rugby, the Autumn Nations.
Also root for Scotland, they have been playing well. One of their players is from S. Africa, a van der Merwe, which makes me smile every time.

my feet and calves seem to cramp more the older I get too, taking a bit more sodium and it does seem to help. Also running again, so for sure that has something to do with it…

Spending the week at the low cooler pool, so that is nice. Tuesday did 3500 of various stuff with some really fast fly in there, and today did this one:

10x100s@1;40(1;27 to 1;20)
4x(2x100frog@2;00/50breast hard@1;00)frogs(1;52/51/48/48/48/48/46/44)breast’s(44/43/42/41)
