November Swim Challenge: 19th year of November Swim Challenges

Adding a bit more human (slow) swim times here. SCM
300 warm up @ 1:50
4x50 fins kick @ 1:26
3x400 @ 1:40 p/b
4x50 @ 1:29
100 c/d

Came down with a cold but still pretty light and didnt want to shower so went to the pool for 25 minutes or so. A few laps of backstroke trying to move arms as slow as possible, some finger drag drill and 3 strokes, breathe, head under, breathe and 3 strokes

Then just did about 10 minutes of long course 50ms very easy speeds with rest so no hard breathing but long strokes, managed to do 25 strokes on my last one with no fly kicks. equal my personal record

I hope you feel better soon. Always liked swimming and chlorine and breathing out oneā€™s nose to get snot out, if youā€™re congestedā€¦

I actually like the smell of chlorine too

But fluoride, didnā€™t that get a run in your elections?

Yes I spend a few weeks at Bondi way before you were born, had the time of my life putting all around Sydney and the surrounding towns. Was actually a stopover on my way to NZ for some lifeguard comps and got stuck there because of an airline strike from Quantasā€¦Not many choices back in those days, so made the most of it with some locals I made friends withā€¦

SO what a difference a days makes, yesterday heart was all wacky and barley got in 1800 slow slow yards, and today at the cooler sea level pool and all was good:

I love the smell of chlorine as long as I can get in chlorinated water.

Physical progress here is a two steps forward, one step backā€¦ have more ROM now, and can do a bit more weight bearing, so newly adjusting to ā€œhow much weight bearing can I add w/o increasing pain too much.ā€

Probably no PT today due to pain from a whole bunch of new stuff in PT yesterday, but Iā€™m keeping up with it as I am physically able to do so.

good job to everyone swimming at ANY speed!

Two steps forward and one back is normal life these days!!!

Was thinking about the 200 fly I will probably swim in a few weeks, so did some stuff to make it more palatable today at the lower and cooler pool:

so where is it hitting you? Is this now in your hips and not your shoulders? Can you float at all or still awhile from aqua therapy?

My cold was prob not a cold and some kind of throat infection as it got heaps worse and now (6 days from onset) I am finally coughing up the yellow gooo after getting some antiobiotcs. Just been sitting around at home watching tv and reading some easy stuff. Fun fun (clown face)

two unrelated thingsā€¦ had hip surgery 10/15
aqua therapy is on the list to explore!

Occasional lurker here to see how what proper swimmers are up to and get some tips. Iā€™m still just splashing about.

My apologies for jumping in on this and I donā€™t know the history at all. 4 weeks on from hip arthroscopic surgery? Did they advise against being in the pool up to and beyond this point? Are the incisions healed?
Based on your, ā€˜I love the smell of chlorine as long as I can get in chlorinated waterā€™ comment Iā€™m surprised you arenā€™t in already. Is there fear of overdoing it once you are?

Had the whole pool to myself, with the age group club team off for Veterans Day. Smooth water!

3400 SCY in 64 minutes

1000FR (14:39)/200K

Hope itā€™s going well for all doing recovery and rehab work. Persevere.

Back at my normal pool but it was only 83, so cold nights must be having some affect:

last time the pool nearest me had one other swimmer, it was nice. Today all lanes were fullā€¦
drove 10min to the next pool which is kept colder for swim teams, emptyā€¦
4x400IM, 7:45,55,55,58
still sore from Sunday weight workout, eased up a bit as we went along.

youre so lucky - i have been getting a bit cranky at my pool lately as there are lots of fit (not so fast) people who all jump in the fast lane, but they do not have any etiquette. its usually always the men who just have no idea

the rudest thing someone told me they said once was ā€˜do you know what ā€˜fā€™ ā€˜aā€™ ā€˜sā€™ ā€˜tā€™ means? Yeah? Well youre not itā€™

i would never say that but I do sometimes ask people to wait a second, or can I pass, if they push off a few times and I am within the flags (and going to catch them after a few strokes after break out). in squad if we ever impeded the leaders of the lane coming through to lap us the coach would be absolutely livid, we would just have to dive under the water and get out of their way or ā€˜stop being a princessā€™ ā€˜stop being a big baby and have a goā€™. i definitely got called a pussy and told totry harder by the coach a few times. it was actually said in anger which is pretty off colour, even at that time. good times.

slow day and knew it from the 1st 100@1;30 pace. Normally my off swim day but calf was acting up so no run today. Got through some distance yardages:

5x(500buoy or pull@7;30/7;00/200frog@4;00)buoys(7;25/7;15/pulls-6;45/6;40/6;37)frogs(3;54/50/46/46)

noticed that in a couple of swims in Perthā€¦ swimmers in the ā€˜fastā€™ lane were notā€¦ missed my intervals all the time, either going quickly to stay ahead of them or waiting for them to get far enough ahead that I wouldnā€™t have to spend 40m breaststroking idly behind themā€¦

we used to have 3 pools within 20min, down to 2 now, the closer one is too warm but it saves 20min of driving which is important when lunch-hour working out. But, the warm water attracts the older/slower folks (me included
Iā€™m so looking forward to retirementā€¦

Good spot. Any of them close enough to cycle or not really worth it?

Could have pulled the brash American and said something like, I donā€™t know what you call this but back where Iā€™m from this ainā€™t fast

Iā€™ve got a few that are within 20 minutes as well but traffic and parking are not worth it so I ride to mine , and ride a bit further when I want an outdoor

Just getting back into it as
500 warm up
12x50
6x100
300 easy

Glad you are back in the water, take it easy for a bit until it feels right to push the paceā€¦Was going to run today but had a sore tooth and the dentist is right next to the pool, so 4 in a row baby!!

24x100 as

@Mart.S the incisions are healed but my motion has been really limited and Iā€™ve had a ton of pain. It was arthroscopic BUT they fixed a torn labrum (drilled into bone there) and fixed an ischiofemoral impingement by shaving 5 mm of bone (which they said is a lot; they said they got in there and there was lot more bone they had to cut than theyā€™ve had to do for other people on that procedure). To get to that spot, they had to cut a couple mm of bone in another spot. So there was just a lot of stuff, and Iā€™d been in near-constant excruciating pain for a month pre-surgeryā€¦ with less, but some, pain for months before that. So it was all super inflamed, there was a ton of cutting, which causes more inflammation, and the total time of motion restriction has led to all kinds of tight muscles and stuff. Post surgery has ā€¦ more motion restrictions, so Iā€™m only slowly coming out of it.

had more pain free-time lately though

anyway, too much going on physically - including current motion restrictions - to swim right now. I havenā€™t been able to drive, otherwise I might get in for some therapy pool time.

Iā€™ll get back to it. But itā€™s not a good idea for me right now. Other people probably would be fine. This was a weird, complicated, multi-procedure thing.

PT stuff done!!!

Went in today thinking about my 200 fly, but water was 86 so no 200ā€™s today. Did get in 800 of fly though, so a start to a build at least:
