Nothingman Event Info

September 15, 2007.
6 AM Swim Start.
Wingra Park in Madison, Wisconsin.

The Swim :
Lake Wingra happens to be 1.2 mile across the long way. Starting from Wingra Park at 06:00 we swim to the east side, then the west side and back to the boat ramp area. Swimming is allowed and motorized boats are not allowed on weekends.

The Bike:
To avoid the red menace (Badger Fans) we will take Fish Hatchery out and into town.
From Wingra Park: Knickerbocker ST - Monroe - Regent - Park - Fish Hatch - Whalen.
Then we will follow the regular IMWI bike course with two clockwise loops.

If anyone is starting from Verona, Firemans park is a good hook up point:
We will pass about 9 AM and again around noon.
Send a Private Message to get my cellphone number so I can tell you where we are on the course.

Run:
I measured up a 2344 feet long loop inside Wingra Park.
Mostly grass, flat and in full view of each other and the people who came to laugh at and with us.
59 (!) loops to complete a full marathon. Total hamster mode, but safe and certainly something else.
Creative suggestions of ways of counting laps are welcome ( donuts - beer - candy necklaces , what else ? )

Wingra Park features:
Parking, restrooms, playground, picnictables, canoe/paddleboats/kayakrental, consessions, and nearby bars/restaurants.

Remember, this costs nothing and counts for nothing. It just happens.

But, it would be nice to get a feel for who is going to show up, and what distance you are aiming at.

So, who is coming, and what are you bringing ?

Daytime bump.

Oh, by the way:

I just got confirmed that a celebrity might show up.

All right people–for most of you (except those doing Kona or IMFL), your season is over. You might even be basking in the glory of a well-executed IM race. Those of you who just completed IMWI–congratulations–I was out there cheering for you.

So you’re not doing anything this Saturday and you live within driving distance of Madison, WI? Come on out and be neutral support for or just hang out with a few people who are going to JUST DO IT. Or maybe you’ve signed up for IMWI 2008 and would like to ride part or all of the course in a relaxed fashion (as I will be doing) to see what it’s like.

If I can stand out on the IMWI run course in a bikini top when it’s all of 70 degrees, then you can come all bundled up and do basically NOTHING for an entire day while I am doing the same.

Sure, there will be no live coverage, no timing, no bib numbers, no NOTHING–after all, it IS NothingMan.

Think of it more as tailgating rather than spectating. Since the real action (after all, the “race” doesn’t begin until the run, right?) will be taking place in a nice park, you can bring your grill or make pizza runs while the lunatics are doing their thing.

Oh and we need folks to count our run laps. 59 is a big number!

59 laps. Yowsa! Just make sure you run the tangents to make up time on the fishes.

You know the rules, we need the pics or it never happened.

I was thinking of making it a no-swimsuit swim, (as opposed to a no-wetsuit swim), but it looks like the coming weekend might be a tad colder than last.
So, wetsuit it is.

Not sure if I am going to play - BUT - Rockman would like to donate all the Hammer Gel, Heed and Endurolytes that anyone can use. I can even bring large 5 gallon coolers of Heed as well as cups for an aid station on the run.

Awesome R10C. Thanks. If you can’t make it up, I can stop by your house on the way up.

I have something for you too - a Jr.Firefighter bagde and helmet.

Certainly - I am less than a mile off of the I90 Riverside exit just north of Rockford. What ever you need. I have hundreds of Gels, bunches of Heed and thousands of Endurolytes…coolers, cups…I would really like to be there however.

Whispering in creepy stalker voice:
“I know where your house is, as a matter of fact I am sitting outside with binoculars right now.”
Just kidding.
I was at the ST party at your house the night before Rockman, you were running around like a clown and probably didn’t notice.

Great! 7316 will get you past the dead bolt…will totally hook you up!

Based on the response, to this thread we probably won’t need thousands or hundreds of anything.
But if you ride, bring the pink bike and cardboard aero helmet.

The weather forecasters predicts an overnight low at about 40 F. Advantage Norwegians !

LOL! Don’t tell me Nothingman has a prestige problem.

Only Ted can save the event from the shadows now, by drawing the womens out of the woodwork.

I must have been distracted by the giant bunny because I certainly noticed that on the course, but I somehow missed the babe in the bikini

I was also out on the bike course wearing a tiger striped kit. You might have seen me at the crest of the first part of the Garfoot Road climb (at Mineral Point Road), or perhaps when I was riding the loop in the reverse direction on my Griffen.

I know someone who got a pic or two of me in the tiger kit–if I can locate them, will post here.

I think I’ll go with the tiger suit for NothingMan as well.
