45 YO Male: I get 5-6 hours a night (during hockey season closer to 5) and maybe an extra hour on the weekends. I have always done this and function very well. I really like having 18-19 a day to do what I need. I can’t imagine sleeping 10 hours a night, that would cut 4-5 hours out my day…I would never get caught up
When I was in college, I worked at UPS unloading trucks – worked the 11 pm - 2 am shift. Then usually had morning classes. I averaged 4 hrs per night during the week then tried to make it up on the weekends.
I look back on that now and wonder how the hell I did it. Power of youth I suppose. I need at least 7, but really function better on 8 or 9 hrs now.
25yo male - I prefer, and make an active effort to get 7-8 hours, 9 on weekends (because I’m not up at 5:45 to be in the pool by 6am like i am on weekdays). Although i frequently get 6.5 and sometimes less (I have a 10 month old and a 21 month old).
During the week (sun-thur) i try to be in bed by 9:30, which means i usually get there by 10pm.
This is new to me. Before i started active IM training i didn’t go to bed until at least midnight, but i wasn’t training in the mornings either.
I only sleep 6 hours a night - but that is because there is a 6, a 5 and 1 year old in the house. Usually at least one of them is up in the night and we seem to be busy until midnight just cleaning up and preparing for the next day (along with spending some time together). If I had a choice, I would like to get 8 hours a night. I would like to go to bed at 10pm and get up at 6am. That ain’t happening. If I shut my eyes anytime during the day, I can fall asleep within 30 seconds.
