Well, I am freaking out a bit. I am doing Wildflower long course in 2 weeks. My training was going fine until about 6-7 weeks ago. I had to travel 4 times to Europe in 6 weeks. So during the last 6 weeks I had no swimming at all, maybe 5 bike rides (longest 60 miles or so) and I ran 2/3 times a week but for no more than 1.5 hours.
I am returning to the US this Wed with 10 days to go before race day. What would be the best advice for training until the race. My goal at this point is to not get hurt !
Mentally prepare yourself for a less than expected performance. Looking to not get hurt is a good idea. I had my first 50k race go this way. 3 weeks out work just got crazy. I don’t think I ran 10 miles in those last three weeks leading up to it. I told myself I was in good enough shape to finish. When planning for the race I said “under 5”, when my training fell apart I said “under 6”, on the third 11 mile loop I said “under 7, please” I finished about 6:50 or so. Not pretty but only 2 falls and no injuries.
