I was hoping to join the Charles River Wheelmen century on 16th September; but just realized I leave that day for a business trip and need to be at the airport before I’ll be off my bike.
I have looked at a few northern New England bike club web sites to find some other centuries on some other weekends. Any recommendations from anyone up here in Northern New England? I know Nashoba Valley Pedalers and Granite State Wheelmen each have centuries. There must be others. I’d prefer hills rather than flat.
Any reference web sites or recommendations? I’ve ridden plenty of solo centuries but was looking for a “supported” experience for a change.
September 30 - Cadillac Challenge - a century ride (or metric century) around MDI culminating at the top of Cadillac Mountain (you said you wanted hills :D)
google ‘Cadillac Challenge’ and you should find it.
I’ve never done this but I refer to this calendar occasionally. Some events well organized, some not so. That said, if you’ve never been to acadia, national park, the ride is just icing on the cake. There me be other centurys on this calendar in maine as well.
On August 25th in Greenfield, Massachusetts is the D2R2. This is basically a century ride with a whole lot of dirt roads and plenty of climbing. 107 miles, 70% on dirt roads, with 11,300 feet of climbing. The fastest riders take about 8 hours. I have yet to do this as I’ve been away every year at the time, but everyone I know loves it.
Blazing Saddles Century on August 25th, starting and finishing at Triton HS in Byfield MA. Course is changing a bit this year but I did it last year and it’s a nice ride on quiet roads through the North Shore and into NH. Some hills but nothing too bad, nice scenery along the way. It’s hosted by the North Shore Cyclists. www.nscyc.org for more details.

Woah! Thanks for the heads up on this. I grew up less than a mile from Triton, and Mom is still there. I’ll have to check this out!
