Northeast training getaway

anyone out there able to recommend some good training destinations in upstate NY, NH, VT, or Maine? Hopefully a place where i can rent a small cottage for 2 weeks and get some serious training. Lake access, pool access are a plus (one of the two a necessity) and good riding and running. As far away from the summer crowds as possible.

Thanks!

Lake Placid is always a good call. Stowe/Waterbury Vermont area is great too–resevoir, pools, killer riding and running (but I’m biased).

Maine: Mount Desert Island

Lake or ocean swimming. The pool sucks.
Lots of nice cycling, lots of nice running.

If you decide to come there, or want more info, PM me. I’m currently on the island for the summer and as happy as a clam

Hudson Valley Velodrome. Measured pond on site, endless pool, rail trail, all-weather track, awesome cycling, etc… 2 br cottage is $250 for the week. It can be outfitted with a hypoxic tent for an additional charge. Weekly Thursday night criterium. Strong local athletes to train with. Best training in north east. Cheers.

Lake Placid cannot be beat.

I’ll echo Placid. I did a 4 day training weekend there in May…love that town, incredible training. You don’t have to always train on the IMLP course, Whiteface makes a tough climb for training. Plus there’s the great barbeque place just outside of town. Cobble Mountain Lodge was where I stayed, had a small cabin which was perfect. Also did something similar last summer, but stayed at the Sherwood Forest Motor Inn…another small cabin, slightly cheaper, a little more spartan.

thanks for these links, they look great and affordable.

Cobble mountain was slightly nicer. Also allows dogs, which was great as I brought my Lab for some company.

Sherwood has a one-bed cabin that’s dirt cheap (like $65/night, no A/C), is a little more rustic (actually on a lake), but the cabin a bit more bare-bones. Felt exactly like summer camp. The bathroom was clean, but grim. Another plus is that it’s across the road from the barbecue place.
