North Korea's internet goes dark

Hmm…

CloudFlare, an Internet company based in San Francisco, confirmed Monday that North Korea’s Internet access was “toast.” A large number of connections had been withdrawn, “showing that the North Korean network has gone away,” Matthew Prince, CloudFlare’s founder, wrote in an email.
Although the failure might have been caused by maintenance problems, Mr. Madory and others said that such problems most likely would not have caused such a prolonged, widespread loss.

So in other words, “hack THIS!..”
.

The Norks be trippin
.

How are they going to watch The Interview when Sony puts it online?

We should demand to be involved in a joint investigation into the cause of their interwebs going dark.

Well, I guess that’s one way to close a vulnerability…

Don’t laugh: that is one proposed explanation!

Perfect way to close a vulnerability.

Seems like a “proportional response” to me.

wait….they had internet?

yeah, all of 1024 IP address.

I watched an utterly fascinating documentary on Netflix about the Mass Games last summer. The North Koreans in the documentary would be eating dinner and the power would go out, and they would blame Americans for the power going out.

So this whole internet thing could always be intentional for propaganda purposes…bloody Americans!!

If there are only a little over 1,000 IP addresses I don’t think it would create much Anti American outrage. Seems like only a very very few elites have internet access out of 25 Million people?

While this is true, I’m sure the propaganda machine will blame the US, regardless of whether it effects the average NK citizen. Hopefully they’re right for once

I agree with the I hope we did it.

IDK if they would make it or be able to make it a message to the masses, do you think that more than the elites even know about the internet?

I think the goal would be to outrage the people who made the decision to hack Sony…which would be those same few elites. Everyone else is outraged on command. But the general population is already conditioned to be outraged at everything American. I’m not sure there’s really any more room on the dial to turn to ‘11’.

There’s some good descriptions of some of their web access from guest teachers at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology. The book “Without You, There Is No Us” by Suki Kim has some interesting bits. This is the most elite “tech” school in North Korea. Only a few “graduate students” are allowed access to the Internet. In a special, guarded room. And even that version of the Internet is highly filtered, and presumably tightly monitored.

Of course, oddly, enough some times American are highly coveted…like Suki describes in her book how the students pleaded with her to show them a Harry Potter movie (which she got approval for, after fighting off the Evangelical Christians who fund PUST who had their own ideology to protect)

You hack a multi-media company, we hack your entire internet infrastructure. Pick a fight with the biggest kid on the block and don’t be surprised when the big kid knocks you the fuck out.

We should be helping them out.

“Hey Kim…Inernet’s down? You want us to power cycle it for you? Because we can do that also.”

wait….they had internet?

The USA retailiated. Or its just Monday and their shit is all down.

Who’s your daddy!
