Norseman: ballpark estimate of costs?

I’m considering Norseman rather than IMC next year. Going from the West coast. Has someone who’s done it recently maybe tallied costs, considering the requirement for support etc.?

Thanks!

  1. Getting there: expenses depend on where you live. Fly to Bergen or Oslo.
  2. Hire/borrow a car (one week?). Not ridiculously expensive.
  3. Find/bring someone to be your driver/support during the race. There will be extra expenses associated with being two persons instead of just one.
  4. Accomodation: free! You can pitch a tent almost anywhere in Norway. It’s safe and legal. Best way to spend a summer’s night in Scandinavia.
  5. Food: a little more expensive than North America, but you can easily cut costs if you do your own cooking.

Send me a PM if you have any questions regarding traveling to Norway.

But remember, this is priceless  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3D51tmXfIk

I have done norseman twice. In 2006 I was the first american to ever finish and set the 50-55 ag record and then repeated in 2009 and still hold the 55-59 record.Bragging rights done, it costs about $250 to register, another $200 or so for a three day car rental the race dinner was $40 .then you have gas at $10/gal.We camped next to the start for $25/night.hotels run$100-200 and meals are very expensive(a hamburger and fries cost about $Hope that helps.40 for two.).We had free flights, but in summer expect to pay $1500 rt from west coast to bergen.I was there this past june/july doing bergen tri. and we spent about $70/day camping and eating at grocery stores for a monthlong bike tour.Hotels and restaurants will cost three- four times that.
