lol.

i can’t believe they took that photo for the main page, you know… the one where he’s giving the crowd the middle finger at the finish line at Kona.

It’s a pretty nice site and I give him credit for putting the photos of his 2005 breakdown on there in the photo section…Dear god I also noticed this: http://www.normann-stadler.info/html/images/galerie/Hawaii%202006/DSC02043.JPG

What is he doing with a spacer? Clearly Norman doesn’t know what he’s doing! Someone from ST email him and tell him how his position could be better. Use a single photo from his site when doing your fit.

I like the picture with the hand in the air…(middle finger cropped). It is just part of the guy’s passion. He would not be the first champion that raced on fire after being slammed in the media by his peers…if that makes him go faster, what the heck…and I’m heading to the weight room…Norman looks more like a body builder than a pencil neck trigeek…and he backs it up with wins…since I am backing nothing up with wins, may as well at least have some bulk vs dissappear into aerobic nothingness!

But even the guru’s on ST understand that you should not mount your stem directly on your headset…that at least one spacer is needed (as per manufacturer specs).

…worse yet, in this picture he’s riding with a regular helmet:

Was this a Paul Thomas “Kuota Shoot” the day before the race?

Dev

This is a week-of training ride…In the race he rode colored wheels and wore the Advantage II and prototype Oakley Radar’s.

I’m surprised to see that Powerbar and Oakley are not listed on the sponsors page.

Powerbar and Stadler could not reach an agreement this year - don’t know what’s the deal with Oakley. But I guess the new deal with Dresdner Kleinwort is worth a lot (Dresdner Kleinwort is a subsidiary of Allianz Group and had merged with Wasserstein Perella some time ago - one of the big european investment banks). I guess it will also be Normann’s entry in the coaching topic as he is the head of the team…

maybe it’s because oakley and powerbar are not his sponsors:

Beautiful…

I might be totally naive, but does Oakley usually pay people to wear its product or simply give them some other benefit (Healthcare bennies ala Lance) and tons of product?

Bob

For some (lower level athletes) it will probably be product and merchadise only. However, with someone of Norman’s pulling power and position in World Triathlon I am pretty confident that he will be paid (and well) to wear there products. If they don’t, someone else (Rudy project etc) will.

my bad, thanks for the link

In my pro bodyboarder days, we’re talking early 90’s, I was sponsored by Oakley for 2 years and I got paid a whopping $150/month, plus obviously free product. I would almost guess that bodyboarding has less marketing pull than triathlon and the demographic for bodyboarding has alot less $$, so the top pro triathletes probably pull in a respectable retainer from them.
