I’m fairly new to triathlon (2 years) and would love some of you experts to share your knowledge and critique my stroke. Apologies for the brief nature of the video, but any tips would be appreciated!
Firstly it might be worth seeking out a swim coach to give you continued guidance as it often takes time to correct stroke flaws
It’s hard to get a full gauge on your stroke from that small bit of footage but I saw a couple of things
lack of early catch - google EVF
on your pull through your arm is also crossing the centre line under your body - i.e. your forearm is angled across your body at right angles rather than angling towards the ground - loosing propulsion and balance
I am sure you will get a lot of feedback about your stroke. Like the last poster said, you are doing quite a bit well, especially with your posture and core control. I do think there is a bit you can do to work on your catch and pull. BUT…the purpose of me posting was suggest that it is not just the stroke/form that is important, it is also the type of sets that you are doing as well. That is where adding a coach can be just as beneficial as critiquing your form…Just my 2 cents.
I am currently working with a open water specific swim coach. We do most of our work via e-mail and telephone…I have only met him 3 times in person. But the improvements I have made in the last 6 months have been pretty fun. I just did a quick write up about it last week…Still a lot of work to be done, but if you are interested: http://www.matthansontri.com/...rs-work-in-progress/
Too much rotation and no catch. You are driving you shoulder down into the water (along with your entire arm)…this also creates a ton of drag…You want your shoulders high in the water…This won’t happen with that much upper body rotation/twisting…On the flip side your posture looks pretty good, but you need a good swim coach to teach you how to really freestyle…Do it ASAP it will save you a lot of frustration…
