Non Garmin GPS watch for running

What recommendations does the ST community have for a non Garmin GPS watch for my wife to use for running? I don’t need the multisport options and my TGT is way too large for her wrist. Thanks in advance.

Non-Garmin!!! My ears are bleeding!

Garmin makes the 210 which doesn’t have multisport features. At $199.99, it has a much smaller face than the 310XT. Not all of the Garmins are tri-geek watches.

Garmin FR 60. Not gps. Sized like a standard watch. Gives many features like heart rate, pace, strides per minute, distance, time, etc.

Sorry but I do not support Garmin for a variety of reasons. Any non Garmin watches worth buying?

I’ve been looking into buying a watch as well. There is a snazzy looking Polar watch, but it’s much more complicated as far as equipment goes.

Personally I’m thinking about getting the Forerunner 610 (yes, Garmin) because it’s sexy and sleek. Also I couldn’t be bothered to swim with a watch on. I suppose I’m a duathlete at heart.

Timex has a new watch due out in October. I think they are calling it the “timex run trainer”. It looks like it will be similar to the FR210 but waterproof.

Nike GPS might be an option.

I’ve been looking into the 210. It is on sale now at REI. It says it is water resistant to 1 meter for 30 minutes. So is it not suitable for triathlon?

Nike has their Nike+ Sportwatch GPS. It’s pretty cool looking.
And there’s the Timex Global Trainer. Also nice looking- but much bigger than you think.
Or, the new Polar RCX5

do yo want HR?

Check out the Suunto line. I’ve had good results with mine.

i’ve had good luck with the older timex bodylink. they have different size watches for smaller wrists. i like that you can use it as a watch and just use it for timing or you can put on the HR monitor if/when you want and also use the gps if/when you want. it keeps it simple for what you are looking for that day. you can often pick them up NOS on ebay pretty reasonable.

Soleus will have a $100 option in October.

Does your wife race or will she need it for general fitness? Is she training for a half im or hits the gym for spinning or zumba? I have come across many guys who sometimes buy a watch/HRM too techie for the wife, but feel they can explain it and help her understand it and learn it.

Wayne - She is training for the southern odyssey race…but she really runs for general fitness. Looking for a HR and GPS watch that is simple to use…she currently has a Polar HR watch that she uses for calorie counting although i tell her it is not accurate.

Given that you don’t want a Garmin, the soon-to-be-released Timex Run Trainer seems to be the dog’s.

I’m waiting for Ray to get his hands on one so that he can really put it through the paces.

If you can get over your Garmin phobias, the FR60 is quite a nice watch for non-GPS.

Several different sport modes, great features, HRM, FootPod…great package for the price.

I don’t know what your problem is, but Garmin is the answer. Tim
