Non ceramic bearings

So I have a set of the new mavic carbon sl and I want to upgrade the bearings, my question is what do y’all think is the best “non” ceramic wheel bearings I can get…rolling resistance/durability wise…thank you for any advice

If your Mavics are new then I don’t think you stand to gain anything whatsoever by replacing the stock bearings.

I’m not sure if it was something the previous owner did but they feel a little rough and gritty compared to my zipp 202 wheels

Oh I thought you meant new, not new to you.

In that case, I would not waste money on ceramics (lots of info to google on etc). Just get a high quality steel bearing as suggested above.

Ball bearings are all rated based on the ABEC scale for concentricity. The higher the rating the better. Material is spec also important, but pretty safe to say quality and tighter tolerances go hand in hand.

The importance of the roundness and size accuracy of bearings on a bicycle is probably irrelevant once they are loaded up and in use at ~300 rpm. If you were running them at 30000 rpm then maybe it would. Otherwise, the seal friction, grease, and the preload (if they’re adjustable) will be the overriding factors influencing performance.

Just got to your local ball bearing shop. The ‘cycling’ brand bearings are the same as any standard bearing. You’ll get them for a fraction of the cost
