NoDoz?

Does anybody abuse caffiene during races for increased performance? Does it really help?

Its a very fine line between + performance and dehydration. Ive gone nuts on the NoDoz for a sprint distance, I think it helped, but I dont think Id do it for anything longer. I understand caffeine is performance enhancing for endurance sport but like I say, get the numbers wrong and you’ll go bang. Loads of gel companies make caffeinated squeezys, I think that would be a better bet than NoDoz.

I take a 200mg nodoze/stay awake/whatever before most races. You need to play around with it a bit to get the timing and dosage right. i crash a bit hard when it wears off so I either:

a)take it about 90min before the end of the race (for instance take it near the end of the bike in a half)
b)for olympics take it 20min before and follow with caffeine gels on bike and run
c)sprints take it 20min before

I don’t really think it makes you go much faster but it seems to increase your pain tolerance for shorter efforts so you can rev a bit higher. Careful though as you’ve still only got a set amount of gas to burn and if you go out too hard… I do like it a LOT for xterra’s though. I feel I can concentrate, react and flow a lot better on fast and technical bike courses with a touch of caffeine. I’ve also been told by several people that my dosage is a bit low but I’m content with the 200mg (plus some coffee an hour or so earlier). I’m 150lbs btw. Dosage variesa lot with body weight and caffeine tolerance.
