Looking forward to this Sunday and OLN coverage of an Ironman event. As I scanned the channels, noticed that OLN (Comcast) and Dish Network are in a contract dispute and there will be no OLN on Dish Network. Time to switch over to Direct TV.
I heard that Direct does not carry OLN. All of us sat folks might be screwed now.
DirecTV most definitely carries OLN…Channel 608.
Thanks, I heard otherwise, but I’ll have to check into them to see if switching is worthwhile.
The one good deal that I have going with Dish is the no fees Tivo (PVR). I paid a one time charge of $99, don’t need to own the hardware, and get Tivo functionality for as long as I continue to us Dish. No OLN and No TDF would not be acceptable though.
how’d you get that $99 lifetime PVR deal? was it through your installer or DISH themselves? I still get stuck with $4.99/month for PVR (for close to the last 2 years meaning I would have “broke even” a long time ago).
Also, can anyone with DirectTV comment on whether or not they are in the same dispute with OLN (which I thought was now owned by Discovery Channel, not Comcast?) i.e. if I switch to DirectTV will OLN still be blacked out?
DirectTV has OLN as I said before…the dispute is between EchoStar, which owns Dish, and Comcast which still owns OLN. In the past Echostar has had other disputes with other content owners, most notably Viacom - which meant no MTV, VH1, etc for a period of time for DishTV owners. Not a huge loss, I wonder if this means this sort of service disruption will continue.
That really sucks! It’s the only reason I got dish. Apparently comcast wants dish to offer oln to more of thier users and dish doesn’t like the idea of putting it in a lower package. Personally I’d trade a full half of my channels for oln.
Just confirmed the OLN blackout on my Dish Network as well. Let’s hope somebody blinks, sooner rather than later. OLN coverage is certainly better than none.
