youre kidding right?
Yeah, guess I was a little critical. My dream car is actually an M3 E36 Sedan - but it still is portly no matter what you do…although the race version was amazing.
Also - the E36 M3 Lightweight. They were giving them away at the time, actually saw one on the road in Boston (circa 1997ish). Kickin’ myself for not buying one since I had the means at the time.
First car was an 1802 (Germany) and owned a fully restored 2002 which I sold for my wife to go to grad school for a bunch of $ (I bought it as a sunny days and dates car when I was in college). Now she goes crazy if I want a bike for 1/3 the price of my toy car 15 years ago. Go figure…
LOL! You are out of touch - there is no full size spare in any new 1, 3 or 5 series (not sure about the 6 or 7) and the new 3’s use a small race type battery.
That said, I’ve had an E36 M3, E46 M3, and now my “fastest” 3 yet: E92 335i. Yes. For sure straight line and I think at the track, although I’ve yet to track her. New e92 has gotten REAL heavy and finally not offset by the new V8. 414 hp is nice, but only 295 lb/ft. The 335i is lighter and is easily tuned (which I carefully planned). Now have 420 HP and 425 lb/ft. torque and it is a monster :0 Many are running high 11’s now in the quarter. BMW is making it tough though since they only put a LSD in the M3, so that MUST be done or a tuned N54 twin turbo motor (motor of the year twice BTW) is wasted in expensive tire smoke.
Oh yeah, back on topic, I ride a Cervelo ![]()
and I agree, why the hell would a pack of 4 draft behind someone claiming to go 13-15 mph? I do that on recovery days with my 11 year old daughter on my cross bike (which isn’t a Cervelo - until they make one …) ![]()
I hope you changed the gearshift knob - I was a valet for awhile and they gave me the willies! Great autocross car - not too sure about a track car though.
I’ve been out of that scene for a long time…stopped my BMWCCA stint about 1992 - when I placed 2nd in my first ice race in my '87 Jetta (beater).
yeah, I am outta touch with the car scene, but I’m not the one pulling the spare out - I think that was Jackmott.
Been checking out the new BMWs lately - seems like the good money is with the MazdaSpeed 3 or the Subi WRX (especially where I live). Was in lust with the new 1 series, until they gadgeted it up and priced it up. Drove it and it fit like a glove. Too much $$$$. Missed the call on a retro-2002 instead of the Mini.
This thread hella made my day ![]()

Dude, you never, ever, let anyone you don’t know draft off of you! As they catch up behind you, let them draft for about 30 seconds then hit the gas and drop their happy butts!! Oh, sometimes it don’t work, they’ll be so much faster then you that when you try and blow them away, they laugh at you : )
I had a training buddy tell me he was in full aero going about 30 miles per hour, just getting it, when a guy pulled along side, sitting up, on a road bike, with his hands on the tops. Said, HI, then proceeded to pull away without any problem. Thats when you feel like picking up your TT bike, and throwing it into a lava field : ) and never cycling again : )
I’m not out of touch, thats my point =)
The new 3 series is heavier than the old
despite not having a full size spare =)
its a sickness, and all car makers are afflicted =)

What other car besides a porsche can handle like a BMW ?
*4) What are the chances of 4 people riding together “all” having Cervelos? *
**
If it was 4 people from ST, pretty high.
Was your training buddy Lance and did Floyd pass him?
difficult question the even answer since what good handling means depends on who you ask.
but in terms of getting around corner as fast or better, more or less all of them.
and if the question is which cars have the subjective feel of a BMW, well I would ask WHICH bmw?
and why a porsche, all of which are mid or rear engined cars, would handle at all like a BMW, which are mostly front engine cars, I do not know!

What u got jack a pacer or yugo?

I’ve owned and competitively raced a lot of cars.
An E36 3 series BMW that was nationally competitive in the SOLO2 autocross DSP class
A C5 Z06 Corvette (this was, before the Elise, the quickest Solo2 stock car on earth, and one might argue that implies it was the best handling too)
A Toyota MR2 Spyder
An E39 BMW M5. Handles great for its size and weight, but size and weight are bad =)
A Subaru WRX.
Currently I have a prius and an MR2 Spyder that is gutted, with coilovers and bracing. It is a poor mans Elise =)

Sounds like nice cars. I had a Supra and mini van b4 my expidition now a 525xi which I love. I did have a 66 GTO conv. with a 389 tri manifold and his and her shifter . Which I guess the beamer has (the his and hers)also. Sold when I bought first house GOD I miss that GTO! Found it in front of a junk yard near the delaware river. The tide would come in and out of it each day. the guy told me it was sitting there 6 months. Floor completely rotted. Strange enough frame was good and the trunk even better. Buddy had a illegal body shop so we fixed up pretty much. As much as 18 year olds could. Bondo and straight dulux paint. Back in 85 you could not find parts like you could today. They only made a little patch panel for the quartr. You could surf down the driver side quarter it was so wavy. Think that quarter panel was 7 1/2’ to 8’ long and it was all bondo. I could still tell you everywhere that year car will go bad. By the way I like the weight to protect the kids I totaled one bmw already with a kid in it. We are all alive so it worked!
Good reply, your 4 points are right on the money.
I do not care if people jump on my wheel. If they hit my rear wheel they go down I don’t. I like to see people ride, the more people out there the better the world is. They can pass me, draft me, talk to me ,ignore me, makes me no bother : ) Never let anyone ruin your day
Could it be this Yugo?
Dude, you never, ever, let anyone you don’t know draft off of you!
Paul,
I sat on your wheel for a few minutes when we were riding back from Mt Lemmon last week!! And you were sitting behind the 6’5" dude from TriSports!! - It was a good draft back there!! ![]()
Sort of like putting a 454 in a chevy vega.
