I may have missed it, but did they not even show Chris McCormick(Macca) one time. I wonder why they didn’t. He is a pretty high profile plus he may get it right one year and blow the field away.
they didn’t because he was never near the front of the field or named tim deboom.
i love macca, but until he gives nbc a reason to feature him for his actions as opposed to his words, i can’t imagine that they would invest any money in foreshadowing his potential.
He read off his number, but if you blinked you could have missed it. That was the only time I think I noticed him although, I think they might have shown him getting passed on the bike but didn’t mention his name.
They showed him right behind Timmy (Timmy is what his boyz call him) DeBoom getting out of the water. If you go back and freeze the video… about the 9th time you do it…you will see him. Did anyone happen to catch Nicoles Travel-Trek in Kona? Talk about a really cool bike…probably better that Timmy’s Trek TT!
No Widoff
except a brief shot of him at the finish line but no mention of who he was (top American for the 2nd time, top 10 many times)
.

I’m sure if he manageds to “get it right” they’ll give him some coverage. But right now most people have written him off so no need to give him air time that could go to someone like Lessing who people are talking about.
who’s macca?? wait, yea,he’s the guy who is going to win Knoa 6-7 times
Yeah, it was him in the shot when Tim DeBoom rides past, then passes Simon. Blink again and you miss him.

To actually provide some race coverage they would have had to edit out about a bazillion shots of some little kid on the lava, or even more shots of stamping numbers, and athletes with their bikes saying “I’m racer # 1234”.
The coverage gets worse every year.
i’m a big macca fan… i was miffed that they didn’t show him at all. and, that’s bullsh*t “until he gives NBC a reason to cover him”. the dude broke 8 earlier this year for cryin out loud!! and, to anyone that forgot he happened to beat faris al sultan (who NBC did cover) in the process!
as, for the person that said “macca who?” mark allen failed his first 6(?) times he attempted hawaii.
i’m really pissed they didn’t show me either. at the carbo load, i pretty much told everyone at the table, including this dude whose brother knows this girl who works at the hotel where the nbc folks were staying so i am sure it got back to them, that i was going to win my ag. it doesn’t matter that i didn’t do it but rather that i could have. i’ve got real potential, the stuff that made the great ones great at my age. that’s such bs. i mean i won my ag at a local half im and beat a couple of guys who finished ihm this year. hello, where’s the respect? does anyone know dick ebersol’s cellie num b/c i got a side of beef to cut with him?
you’re off in space. you expect too much from a broadcasting entity that really doesn’t know jack about tri. if nbc covered the race where he won and broke 8 and didn’t show him that would be one thing but the guy dnf’d in kona before the run and didn’t make any noise on the bike. they cut this thing after the fact. i think they showed about 10 male pros in entire swarmy epic. what do you want? – “and here’s macca. he’s in about 20th position today and did not make it out on the run course, but boy he really is looking good at this point. macca broke 8 hours at the im distance earlier this year and beat the guy who is going to finish third today. that brief flash you may have just seen in your frame was timmy deboom who passed macca like he was doing leg speed intervals in the small ring, and i don’t even know what those are; we know timmy has won this even before but we will stay here and watch macca doing what macca does at the ironman (note: my favorite part is when they refer to imh as “the ironman”) – not much to date, but just you wait till next year because what we are doing is called foreshadowing. did i mention that macca went 8 hours earlier this year and beat faris, who finishes third today? further, i learned this morning that macca also beat peter reid who won this race last year and finishes second today in some race this year as well, but i never watch any of these things and have never raced in any endurance event in my entire life so the name of that race escapes me; i think it was foreign. our viewers might like to know that macca has pretty much beat most people in the field here today. i wonder why the other racers even bother. macca has so much potential, it’s just a matter of time before it’s realize at the ironman. did you notice that macca is sponsored by jamba juice who also contributed to ryan sutter’s race preperations. i overhead a rumor that ryan sutter got married to a women that he met on a television show. my how times have changed. but i digress. al, how do you think macca’s cadence is looking? what would you say, he’s pushing 54/11 right now into this wind?”
riddle me this, how much airtime did stadler get over the past three years when he, i beleive, finished top 5? by your calculations we have to wait a few more years before macca makes it into the frame.
Nice rant. That was Milleresque.
Bryan, i think you perhaps underestimate the NBC guys level of knowledge of IM
.
you are probably right but the don’t put a whole lot of it on display.
perhaps true but they are putting a product out there for a mass market (full of you seppos !!). It is one of the very few IM things that gets real airplay so …
please understand i was more mocking the logic of why macca did not get any press as opposed to nbc’s coverage. i quite like the product they put out because it allows my parents to better understand what it is that we do and why we do it.
Fair comment bryan . Hope your parents enjoyed it.
and the coverage of the real people as well
I heard he spoke to NBC and asked not to put shown at all. He wants to be an Overnight Success next year when he wins.
I can see it now. Macca’s wins by 17minutes. Mum and Dad sit and home and think, “Gee it must be easy this guy just won it on his first go at a triathlon”.
I seem to recall plenty of coverage of Macca walking and or droping out the last three years. Maybe NBC thought it would be more exciting to show some new guys dropping out.
They didn’t mention Bjorn either and he lead the bike for awhile.
