No lottery for IMC 2006?

I just saw the press release saying that IMC 2006 was closed to general entry. They made no mention of the lottery. Does this mean that there is no lottery this year? I suppose that makes sence, since 2200+ people registered the day after the race.

Umm… there never was a lottery was there? Only Kona has a lottery.

Do one of the qualifiers and get a spot. Almost all of the qualifiers this year had a hard time getting rid of their IMC spots.

No Greg, in the past there has been a small number of Canada spots that went via lottery. One year something like 300 spots.

clm

There is a lottery, although I don’t think it is up yet.

No, there has always been a lottery for IMC. It’s open for two weeks after the race. Whichever slots were not registered for on-site are allocated to the lottery. There is more info on www.ironman.ca

Speaking of Ironman Slots. Has anyone heard of the rumor that either the day before, or the day of an North American Ironman event, you can show up and register in person and take a vacated slot? I heard this rumor specifically in regards to Lake Placid.

I stand corrected.
I was actually astonished at the size of the lineup this year. Despite the new IMNA events, and other non-WTC related IM races… IMC continues to sell out even faster.

It sells out superfast because it is the best one :).

go to active.com. They will be glad to accept your $20 handling fee to be a part of the 2006 IMC lottery for the 150 slots.

I haven’t seen anything up yet for 2006. Did a search under Ironman and under Canada, only brought up the closed (obviously!) 2005 lottery. Either not up yet, or I’m looking in the wrong spot.

from the im ca website:

ONLINE LOTTERY

Ironman Canada allocates any remaining spots to Active.com for an online lottery. On the Tuesday following the race, the lottery sign up will open on Active.com. It will be available to all interested for exactly 2 weeks. The sign up will close on that Monday, two weeks after opening, at midnight. There is an Active.com fee of $20. to participate in their lottery process. By Friday of that week, the winners will be chosen and all applicants will be notified by email whether they were selected or not. A link to the winners list will also be posted on this page. Those selected will then be required to submit the full entry fee to confirm their spot in the race.

2006 Online Lottery is delayed.

yikes, I looked at it this morning and didn’t notice the 2005 race date. Still considering whether to come out of retirement next year. Sounds like I have a few more days to decide.

To me, “sold out” means no slots left over for the lottery.

Does it have something to do with the different signup process this year. It was my first time in Penticton so I’m not an expert. The morning lineup was for people wanting to sign up and for people wanting to sign up others. They gave out sheets to fill out name, birthday & email address. They signed a waiver and then gave the cheque. People were then instructed to go home, log onto a website before Sept 2 and give the rest of the information.

Is this how it worked in previous years?

Darn. Now we have to decide if it’s worth the price of the community slot entry to race the best Ironman race.

I bought a community slot for IMFlorida 2005, due to work and MY lack of enthusiasm to train after last years event I could not make it this year. How the story goes is that you can transfer a communityf und spot ONCE to any other IMNA event with in 12 months…not bad.

Or you could qualify (this is this years list). Spend the money on travelling and racing on of these… same price (or probably much less) than a community fund spot.

Sure, it seems that qualifying is the best route. But the big problem there is that you have to potentially travel to TWO races. If you don’t live anywhere near any qualifying races, then you have to travel to qualify, and then travel for the IM. For me, that would be very tough.

-Colin

With the community slot, for $565 incremental dollars on top of my entry I’m in for sure. Otherwise all it takes is a few of my friends to show up at the qualifier I’ve chosen, and I’ve got to go find another. Talk about a season on the bubble! A qualifier for a qualifier for a qualifier! One qualifier (to get to Kona) is enough for this kid. I’ve gone the community slot route before after getting inspired watching friends race in Kona and decided I needed to get back there the following year. I’m likely heading over again this year to watch some 16 friends race Kona. We’ll see if I’m able to wait until I get home or end up pulling the trigger from the internet terminals at Lava Java.

16 friends racing, man do i hang in the wrong circles…
