I have read posts, from April, of folks who talked about Yaqui bicycles. I am really close to pulling the trigger on one of these machines, (Ocotillo with carbon rear, Dura Pro set up, Zipp wheels, the whole shabang), for all the reasons posted. Am sorry to raise the issue again but before I begin the custom fit process and commit to drop what is looking like close to 4k, Can you help a tri-brother out and give me a thumbs up or down?
If I was you the only thing I would change is to make certain that you have high quality Campagnolo components on that bike…then you are 100% certain that you have it going on…and you will win races, the lotto, learn to fly (with out a plane), no longer be flatulant and the wrong times, never again have a headache and you also will be the object of deisire for all things female.
No personal experience, but from what I have heard the bikes are top-notch. I believe Dan Empfield, aka slowman (aka the creator of this site, the former founder of QR, the inventor of the triathlon wetsuit/tri-bike, etc. etc.) rides one. I also have heard many people sing the praises of Ves on this site. When I am ready to get a new bike I am definitely going to look into Yaqui. If you do a search, in case you haven’t already, I think you will find a lot of information. I believe they were talked about quite a bit last year.
I too agonized, as many have, about which bike to buy. At the end of the day, it was the quality of fit and the attention I received from Ves that swayed me. I provided some measurements and Ves called back to ask that I re-check a few because they were inconsistent with other measurements. He even predicted what they should be and was dead-on.
I now race on a Mariola, Dura-Ace Pro set-up, Zipp 404 tubulars. Comfort-wise, the bike has been everything I had hoped for.
One thing. Ves shared with me that some folks use him as a means to obtain the best set of bike dimensions that would fit them and then go off and order another manufacturer’s bike. The consumer can choose to do what they want whenever they want, but if they go into a detailed fitting discussion knowing full well that they do not intend to by a Yaquis, this practice is not cool.
not only is that practice not cool…it should be punishable by some severe means…I can’t fathom going to a custom bike craftsman (didn’t use the term maker in this case for obvious reasons) getting fitted to your ideal then taking the results to another (potentially lesser…at least in cost if not quality) company and getting them to build it. That kind of person needs some Tonya Harding love imo.
Welcome to the board.
As far as helping a borther out…
If you roll with Zipp’s, paint the Yaqui red, and then put Vision aerobars on it. With a red saddle and some nice bar tape you’ll have a kick-ass lookin ride.
It’s not ow fast you are, it’s how fast you look.
