since getting sick with the flu, no work for 2 days and my weekend was just spent in bed resting. i was not able to drink a single cup of joe and even until now i have yet to drink a cup, no craving for it. i did my first run yesterday and felt great. i normally drink 2-4 cups a day…anyone else who`ve stopped drinking coffee and feel better off the brew?
yeah in the times when i just have green tea in the morning instead of 4 cups of coffee a day I do generally feel better.
The usual problem when im on coffee is I need it. I’ll get done with work and feel like crap unless I have MORE coffee.
can interfere with your sleep too.
green tea is a good way to ween off, its enough caffeine to prevent headaches and help you get moving in the morning, but not enough to hype you up so much that you are exhausted by the afternoon.
(green tea has less caffeine than regular tea)
I’ve had to give up coffee due to migraines.
I used to have a shot of espresso every morning (and one in the afternoon most days).
I miss it like… well, I crossed of the early off-color analogy, but I miss it quite a bit.
Green tea is good, but it’s not espresso.
I do like getting fewer migraines.
I sleep MUCH better if I don’t have any coffee. Less irritable as well.
hell no
more coffee always = more feel better
i was just sick for a week and am having my first cup right now. funny timing…
odd almost anywhere you are in the world, timing of getting sick is almost the same. i have yet to drink a cup, i just dont feel like drinking one but who knows what the weekend will bring LOL…
on a different note, odd when i checked when i called in this sick was exactly 5 years ago, just is hard to get sick even with the flu but not being used to feeling this bad makes your mind do tricks and makes you feel everythings caving in…
hell no
more coffee always = more feel better
x1 gazilliony bazillion! Life without coffee is not worth living. (notice there is no pink on that sentence)
I just keep my coffee consumption to before noon and have no problems sleeping.
I gave up coffee for about 4 months this past year. Never again. The only reason it’s worth it is when you fall back off the wagon and have that first cup…it’s sooooo good.
But I did “feel” a lot better when I wasn’t drinking it. I just missed it too much and life is too short for me to give up something like that. Now I try to drink just one cup a day. Though that “cup” is about as big as my sink.
I gave up coffee entirely a few months ago. I had been a 3-4 cup a day drinker. I do now drink 1-2 cups of green/herbal tea for antioxidants and the warmth. It is nice to not “need” coffee to wake up, but I honestly have to say I can’t tell a huge difference. I also gave up diet soda a year ago, and thought the same thing - everyone says it’s not good for you but I didn’t “feel” a big difference.
Think I will go have a cup of coffee.
i`ll see what happens the next few days and with a buy 1 get 1 coupon at a local coffee shop, might try their teas this time…
went off coffee two summers ago, with no caffeine to substitute - felt lethargic in the morning and didn’t feel any better/worse in the afternoon/evening. Promptly returned to coffee in the fall and am enjoying every sip. Only drink before noon - 2-3 cups. BTW - I don’t get “caffeine headaches” if I skip and actually can go a week or two and not even miss it physically. It’s just a psychological security blanket - kind of like the adult version of thumb sucking…for me anyway.
if a day doesn’t start with coffee and end with wine then something went terribly wrong.
Life is better caffeinated…
It’s proven that caffeine improves athletic performance. For those who dropped java, are you getting caffeine anywhere else?
For me, that early morning rush of energy and mood enhancer is worth every drop. Just need to abstain after about 1 to avoid staying up late.
yup, i’ve experienced the same thing. i miss it but i have much more consistent energy levels without it. stopped biting my nails too. LOOK OUT!
not worth giving up coffee. for example:
Totally. I gave up smoking, drinking and eating critters. No way in hell I’m giving up caffeine or chocolate. Life is too short.
I have gone off it in the past but don’t notice any real difference. I have cut back so it won’t interfere with my sleep but I have to have it every day. I love the taste and the ritual as much as I love the coffee itself. A soy latte is my favorite treat for myself.
I stopped cold turkey 10 days ago as an experiment. I was up to 8 cups between 6AM to 3 PM (all 50/50 caffeinated/decaf)
(Um, it was actually 10d, 6hr, 28m … okay, 29m…But who’s counting?)
I’ve felt almost no difference in swim/bike. But definitely more lethargy in afternoon runs. And profoundly greater sleepiness afterward (esp. if I eat). Like a curtain coming down.
Some headaches during first 5 days.
Decaf actually contains some caff, right? I heard that.
Not to be an ass but…I have noticed no improvement during the time periods I have given up coffee. I have, however, noticed substantial improvements upon taking a few days off work and spending massive amounts of time in bed. I think that may be more to thank for the feel good sensation.
