No coffee, are you kidding me

Last year I tried the no coffee trick before IMFL, week of no coffee and race went fine. This year, this week before Clearwater I am completely miserable. I am falling asleep driving to work in the morning, my head hit the keyboard twice yesterday, promptly I fell asleep at 8.30 last night, skipped my swim this morning, hopefully I can be awake and swim tonight.

Is the coffee high going to be worth it on Saturday morning, or should I cave in and run over to “5Bucks” for a nice cup of Americano with a bit of soy on top?

Dev, how did you manage?

Anyway, good luck to everyone racing this weekend,

Paul

Why?

but more importantly WHY?

I heard that you get a nice coffee high race morning. Won’t help much if I am dead by then.

Ok I just polished of a bag of baby carrots, anything to keep myself occupied.

As I sit here enjoying my double Tall Caramel Macchiato knowing that my Clearwater taper is going well and i’m gonna take down that dog Flanagan, I can honestly say: life is goooooood.

Maybe it’s the caramel, maybe it’s the caffeine, or maybe it’s the fact that i’m not restricting myself from doing something I love unless it involves the words ‘Sweet Tart,’ ‘Hershey,’ ‘egg-nog,’ or ‘LT-intervals.’

;^)

Good luck this weekend!

have you gone mad?

what are you thinking mate?

and aren’t you afraid of crapping your pants on race morning?

if you end up in the hospital from crashing your car, will it have been worth it?

how many more questions can i ask?

i just did the no coffee thing 2 weeks before IMFL. That cup on race day felt STRONG. I am now back at my desk with a gingerbread latte. Its great.

Stay strong, you can hold out, go have some sugar.

did you get that gingerbread coffee at 5Bucks?

even though i’ve had one full mug of espresso…that sounds really good…

Dude, your problem is this 2 races in 2 weeks thing. Even an overraced guy like me would not do a half the weekend after a full and suffer out the coffee fast over all that! I think it is over to Sbucks for you :-).

Good luck!

how can you drink an entire mug of espresso and still be functioning? They serve it in teeny tiny cups here and a single is still all I need to get going…

I perform so much better when I don’t drink coffee, atleast in races but not at work. Myu stomach handle the long runs so much better if I’m coffee-free, don’t know why… My experience is several disaster long runs due to coffee, so no more for me. I have had no problem when I have stayed cofein-free.

Probably just me, but my two cents…

Dave

Sorry about the misinfo, IMFL05. I am Polish, might be a bit slow but not crazy.

yeah, 5 bucks, although i have a ‘deal’ with a coworker. he pays me sums of money after he eats unhealthy snacks. i use it for coffee or donate it to charity. in this case it went to coffee.

go get a gingerbread latte, whats one more shot. i heard on the radio this morning that they were not yet available, pleasantly surprised they were wrong.

What was the original objective to dropping joe? Exposing overtraining? Looks like its working, keep tapering. Keau

Just when I thought that coffee had no effect on me because I got away on 5hrs of sleep… No coffee I need 7-8 hrs of sleep. I am going to be very well rested this Saturday. Maybe not very fast, but very rested.

I originally thought that you don’t drink coffee all week then by having a cup race morning you get a boost. After reading Devs Xtri article I learned that it is to get that additional sleep to sub for the lack of coffee , in order to recover/taper properly.

Coffee stunts your growth.

Give it up.

just reading your post and savoring every glorious , rich, aromatic sip of my grande americano quatro, I can actually feeeeeel the caffeine soaking into my soul…

Try a nice cup of cocoa!

Silk chocolate soymilk, microwaved, is awesome.

no caffeine… but it’s good!

Went to Starbucks. Sickening as it may be they had the Americano ready when I walked in, but I got some green tea instead. Damn I am proud of myself.

I think this is a challenge for you Dev. To win the ST Over Trained Dude of the Year you gotta give this a try.

keep up the uncaffeinated good work!
