No biking for 2.5 weeks

along the lines of a similar thread recently, but a bit differently. I’m training for an olympic distance, and am in a 16 week training program. I’m about halfway through, but now I am vacationing in Australia. I don’t have a bike, and there are no gyms within an hour bus ride that offer a pay-per-visit plan. We’ve got a rock pool here and places to run, but biking will be very difficult. How much fitness do you think will be lost in 2 and a half weeks if I keep up with the other disciplines or go even harder to compensate? I have a month and a half after I get back before my race. Do you think this is enough time to recover from 2 and a half missed weeks? Or should I just htfu and get my ass on that long bus ride?

and are there any excercises/weight training that can be done to simulate cycling instead?

If I read into your post, it sounds like you are relatively new to the sport and that you haven’t done many olympic distance events…which means you probably are more concerned about finishing well than taking the overall win.

If this is the case, then I wouldn’t sweat the lack of cycling for 2.5 weeks. Just keep up the running and swimming as much as your vacation schedule allows. You may feel like crap for a week or two on the bike, but it will get better. By the time the race comes, you won’t really know the difference.

I think that if you run every day during those two weeks you will likely come back just as strong or stronger on the bike than before you left.
