Nimble Crosswinds (2)

Does anyone have a pair of these wheels, & would like to share their experiences/opinions of them?

Tom D was to have tried some in his (ill-fated) wind tunnel test earlier in the year. I was talking to B & L 's mechanic during IM week and he liked mentioned that they flexed a lot laterally in crits! Obviously this is a concern to me, I wonder if being 150 lbs and a spinner not a grinder this would be relevent to me.

One of the reasons I am interested in this wheel is because crosswinds knock me for six on my front wheel when I use my Alps, and am therefore, looking for a more wind friendly option.

I’ve been using a pair of Crosswinds ever since I got fed up popping the spokes of my Zipps back in ‘99. For me, they are the perfect combination of light, aero and stiff. I’m not a small rider; 6’, 190lb former hockey player, but I haven’t had a problem with wobble. They’ve taken me through four of six IMs, including Lanzarote which was windy, but no crosswind problems - they’ve always felt sturdy. For me, that is the most important thing, even more so than the aero factor. I shredded the frame of my aluminum tri bike (multiple cracks around bottom bracket area) so for me, carbon fiber is ideal; my race set-up now includes a c-40 with the nimbles and a pair of Zipp carbon cranks - the entire set-up is rock-solid, light, responsive and smooth.

I called for a replacement rear hub a few months ago and the folks were great. They still had me on file from the original wheel purchase and they got it to me quite quickly, even though I’ve since moved to Switzerland.

Quality wheels, quality customer service, pricey but worth it IMO.

John Cobb tested the Nimble Crosswind this summer. They came out between HED3 and Zipp 404 for drag. This link may take you there…

I’ve been using a pair since 1999 and I really like them. I am about 145lbs and also a spinner and have had no problems with flex. I’ve ridden them in strong winds a few times (30mph gusting to 40mph kind of stuff). I was blown around the road a bit but it wasn’t too bad. I certainly didn’t have to slow down at all and one of those times was a practice run on the IMLP course descending at ~50mph into Keene. But I’m not sure how they compare to Alps. I would think the Alps are better in crosswinds since they are a wire spoked wheel.

I’ve had a set for a few years. They’ve been good to me; very durable and very lightweight. I haven’t noticed any lateral flex. Customer service is excellent. They keep a detailed file on every customer they’ve dealt with and try to make every customer feel special. I don’t have a problem with them blowing me around, but I guess I’m on the larger side(6’1", 175).

I have seen and even ridden (only once) several Nimble wheels and was impressed by all of them. I wish they sold them through dealers. I know we could do well with them.

Guys, thank you for your feedback. It looks like I have my Christmas present to myself sorted out, even if I won’t get it for the holidays.

Guys, anyone know if Nimble are off line for the holidays or anyother reason? I sent an e mail to get delivery times for clinchers on Monday and am still waiting for a reply. This is not what I expected after you all big upped their customer service.
