Nike Watch Question

I love my Nike watch, except when I have to change the battery. To everyone else who has a Nike watch - is there a way of doing this without mailing the silly watch to Illinois for two weeks? I have gone to maybe 6 places that do change watch batteries, and they have not been able to help me. Thanks

Steve

I ruined one by taking the back off. There is a bizare shaped rubber gasket that must have been cryo frozen to get it to fit in the first place. I think it could probably be done because I pulled the gasket out thinking it would slip back in. If you lift the back off gently the gasket should stay in place whilst the battery is changed.

Most jewellers probably wouldn’t want to touch it due to the risk of ruining it although the risk is probably fairly small - Let the owner beware I guess.

If you are careful you should be able to do it yourself. Like with any sports watch, just make sure you replace the gasket properly or else it won’t be waterproof or even water-resistant any more. I’ve changed both Nike and Timex batteries with no problems.

Not so Terry, Nike designs their watches so that only the Nike factory can change ther batteries…which they charge you $20 for instead of $4.99 at the local jeweler.

Never buy a Nike watch.

Maybe the one you have, but I have changed the batteries 2 or 3 times in two different Nike watches that my wife has. I’m actually looking at one right now - 4 little screws = I can open it. The first time I tried it was actually to fix the gasket that a jeweler screwed up by pinching/ripping which caused it to fog up when worn in the shower. You can fix that with some Shoe Goop or something similiar. AFAIK the only things that you really can’t change by yourself are the batteries in Polar HRM chest transmitters.

How to cure all nike watch woes:

step 1: throw current nike watch in garbage
step 2: go buy a watch from a company that doesn’t pride itself on marketing it’s products based solely on hype and other such nonsense.

I have never used one actually, but according to my wife the way they let you use multiple timers and things are way more practical than almost any other watch for doing intervals and the like. And they are pretty cheap if you get them at the Nike Outlet stores!

The only feature i can say I really liked about em was the way they set up their interval timers on the newer watches. However, I’ve been really disapointed by their performance otherwise. Our store used to carry them until they started coming back with a multitude of problems, including their shady batteries.
