Nike mayfly?

Anyone try this shoe for shorter races (or longer.)???
any comments?

They’re made out of tissue paper and hope. Do not expect them to last the full 10K

If it rains your feet will turn yellow and then the shoes will dissolve like Alka Seltzer. Styrofoam and tissue paper.

I saw a picture of Tim DeBoom in them. It may have been Vineman.

I use them and they’re holding up well. They’re much more cushioned than they look, but not very stable. I’m a pretty neutral mid-foot striker - the soles under the balls of my feet wear out long before the heel - and I’ve run a half-marathon with no problems.

I think the uppers are made of Tyvek, that same indestructable stuff race numbers are printed on.

It looks like they have holes in the soles. Some Nike designer drilled some holes in one of his shoes before a race a few years ago. The undrilled shoe weighed something like a pound more than the other at the end. That’s some serious sweat!

A good alternative is the Brooks T4. I get ~300 miles out of each pair. I run in them (and the older T3) full-time. I’ve done half IMs, half marathons and long runs on concrete up to 18 miles. If you like lightweight nuetral shoes, give them a try.

I’m going to spring for a pair of Mayflies just to satisfy my curiosity.

I’m on my second pair, I only use them for 10K and less. They are fairly cushiony for a flat that is so light. I got 100K out of my first pair.

I was actually hoping that they were a little firm and bouncy, rather than cushiony.

have you found these for sale somewhere? i’ve been looking for ages.

Yeah, I would say a little firm and bouncy is a better discription.

Only at Roadrunnersports

I was hoping to find them at a local store. But, alas, no luck.

I own a pair of the Brooks T3. It has to be one of the lightest running shoes out there(5.3 ounces).

I ran the Duluth Marathon with them, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a few long distance training runs under your belt.
