Is anyone using the Free 5.0 as a training shoe. I just ordered a pair online and am going to give them a shot. I hear Nike came out with the 5.0 as a 10.0 would be concidered a trainer, and a 0 would be bare foot running, and hear a 4.0 will be next and so on.
If you are running in the Free 5.0 what is your opinion, I have a friend that does all his running in the Free and loves them. He said he now has no Knee pain and has been pain free.
Here is a good resource to get more info and a training program around FREE 5.0. It is very important that you build into wearing these shoes. You might feel a bit sore in the beginning if you jump into too soon.
Anyone running Boston? Come see us at the Nike booth at the Expo or at Niketown Boston. As with last year, we’ll be doing free gait analysis at both locations. We use high speed video (250 fps) and display it on a plasma screen right in front of the treadmill. FREE 5.0 is going to be the shoe that we are discussing. Come on down and take a quick gait analysis using them and talk to one of our running specialist about the FREE 5.0 product and any other Nike shoe.
Bought a pair 3 weeks ago. I am in love. I have had some ITB/knee/hamstring issues the last year and decided to give them a try. Ran 3-4 miles a few times then upped it to 6-7 last week. Felt great, no little hamstring twinge, knee discomfort, etc… I definitely run differently in them. More forward on the balls of my feet whereas before I struggled not to hit heel first. Not sure yet how they would do for longer runs. They come with a 5.0 insert and a 4.5.
I am a lifeguard so it’s glass in the sand. At 52 the feet arn’t getting much stronger. ha ha I don’t see many folks my age running. Most are at the all you can eat place. In their nike running suit. Ha HA

I am just having fun so don’t like freek out !
I just got my Nike Free 5.0’s the other day, and I have to say that overall I am impressed. The booklet says you should walk around in them for a few days the progressively start running a little at a time and work up to bigger mileage. I have been trying to work on my foot strike to land more on my forefoot and not the heel, and found with a lighter weight flat it is much more natural and easier to do. With the Free 5.0 it seems the natural tendency is to land on the forefoot without thinking about it. The shoe is very comfortable, and I am looking forward to upping my mileage in the future, but so far so good.
I also bought the Free 5.0 and I must say I love them. I agree I now have no problem running on the balls of my feet, and I don’t even think about it. I will continue to up my mileage, as I feel I can run as long as I want in these but have been adding slowly. I am very surprised I don’t see more runners in these from the experience my friends and I have had. I look forward to the 4.0 and the 3.0 when they come out. If you have not tried the Free, you should. And no I don’t work for Nike…
