Okay, be miserable dude. Not my problem if you want to whine on Slowtwitch. I didn’t feel like he was pushing anything. Peace
From my comment:
“To start off, I enjoy watching some of his videos”
“It is just an ad for BPN. There is nothing wrong with that.”
Not being miserable, being objective.
From his video: I think he highlights and lays out while holding up the products four times through his first training video, and the very first link in the description is a link to his company.
It’s comical to me that people watch these videos and point out the product pushing that is going on. None of these online personalities would do a single video if there wasn’t some incentive to do so.
Those with sponsors are pushing product because it’s likely required in some form in order to continue to receive product or $.
Those without products to push are just pushing themselves so potential future sponsors will hop on, at which point products get pushed.
I also find it comical the folks complaining that he’s a bodybuilder. Those dudes are quite a bit more tolerable than the standard triathlete. (No comment on crossfitters)
I think the distinction is highlighting a product and pushing a product. He absolutely highlights his products and his videos are absolutely ads for his products and company. But I find it much more tolerable than the ketone ads I see on a variety of athletes videos and social feeds. His product placements feel organic to the content but Sam Long, for example, downing a ketone shot during a YouTube interview session feels rediculous, unless Kenny W is just that taxing.
I like his videos for his business content. I think it’s cool to see his and his companies business growth.
However, I could deal without the constant leadership & motivational lectures, 15-20 min of the video showing him lift weights with his shirt off, and constant meal prep videos.
Also… please stop calling it “prep” FFS.
I like his videos, I really liked his first Ironman series where he was coached by Natasha Van Der Merwe which I think kickstarted her coaching career and the whole NVDM business. Is he coaching himself this time?
I thought Triathlon Taren coached him.
I don’t quite understand how someone with strong legs, who has the aerobic capacity to run a good marathon, only has a FTP (when trained) of 300W, that’s very weak.
Not all good runners are good cyclists. He looks really uncomfortable and inefficient on the bike. His economy is probably very poor.
Plus he has said that he has kept his ftp at 300w…he hasn’t retested it yet.
Yes, coaching himself. He explains why in the first video.
Like three years ago for six months.
Used to be a big fan of Nick and the content he pushed. Watched his first 2 Ironman build series but can’t get into this one. The misinformation and incorrect verbiage used just rubs me the wrong way. Sure, getting people into the sport is great for us all, but man, it rubs me the wrong way when you terms incorrectly.
Also, every video is simply a product ad. Don’t get me wrong, good for him. His business has blown up over the last 5 years and he’s the best marketer for his business and likely the best in the industry. I’ve tried his products and don’t find them great…but with his marketing, he sells a lot…
I find it funny how so many kids now want to be “hybrid athletes” because of Nick. They come from the commercial gym world and do maybe one stand alone half marathon and now consider themselves a hybrid. Yet you ask them how they’re training for their next run race or triathlon and they say, well I’m not doing anything now but will start when I’m like 12 weeks out. I guess us folks on ST are a bit different in the fact that we are training year round and maybe just ramp up training 12 weeks out. Rather than just start training 12 weeks out. I guess that’s why Nick keeps calling it a prep, when in actuality it should be a build…but again just my 2 cents.
I’ll be racing IM California this year and will be using Nick as motivation to absolutely destroy his time so I can rub that in my cousins face who is a die hard Nick Bare fan…the likes that wears his merch everywhere and even has a Go One More sticker on his car. It’s going to be great…
300w is weak for his size… ~90kg?
Thought so. What an era.
