Well, the city of Nice decided to give the organisation of the Nice Triathlon to the WTC (the austrian organisers of IM Austria, Germany and France).
Nice will be, for the first time in early June 2005, an Ironman distance (and WTC Ironman sanctioned) race.
I personally think it would have been nicer to keep the same distances as they were up to now, as there are already enough Ironmans on this planet, and not everybody wants to do the same race over and over.
The bike will still be hilly, but less tough (and maybe less interesting?) that it is now.
The return to June is a good thing in terms of PRO participation, maybe not age-group participation at first.
I agree with keeping the course and distance the same - but moving it to June is good news!
Why change a tradition? The trouble is not with the course and distance it was the date and maybe organisation that went a bit off track the last few years - top event!
Too early for the slots…they just had the confirmation from the City of Nice that they would be granted the right to organize the race instead of the FFTRI (French Triathlon Federation) that was running it since the late 90’s.
How do you know about Gerardmer being replaced ? (I mean it makes sense that they wouldn’t have two IM in France, but did you ask the organizer of Gerardmer ?)
I have been bothered by shin splints since late March, but I hope I can do Nyon in early August (then I’m off to Athens for the Olympics for two weeks), and then I’ll do the Vevey Triathlon on September 5th.
