We are about a month out from Nice WC. I couldn’t find a thread on this
For the women’s race it’s hard to look beyond Daniela Ryf. Pick a brit Lucy/Holly for 2nd?
For the men’s race I think we see the big 3 again. Jan is super impressive but this course has Alistair written all over it. If he is fit, and he has been this year, I think he will he seal it on the bike. I don’t see Jan/Javier staying with him.

Has Jan confirmed a start? I know Javier and Alistair are both on record as starting this.
Alistair is not on the ITU Grand Final start list so that means he’s going all in for the Nice/Kona double. Javier is, and has been ITU focussed so I don’t think he’s a podium contender with that bike course.
I was always convinced Jan would give it a swerve after last year. Who knows!

Kienle on Instagram saying he is motivated for this one. He thinks the tough bike will play to his strengthens and his running has come on nicely this year. He had a great run at the European Challenge Champs. I like Seb a lot. He wants to race the best and win. However, I think he will not see AB after the swim start until the finish line but lets see.
A little surprising someone with so much focus on Kona is planning on trying to win this thing. I mean obviously if they’re racing they’re trying to win, but I kind of thought what happened to Jan last year would scare top Kona competitors away from doing this double.

I’m glad it doesn’t scare them and I don’t think it should, especially when the race is relatively close to home as it is for many (practically all?!) of the top Kona contenders. I always felt the only limiter in going for the 70.3/Kona double was the travel involved, not the stress on the body due to racing a 70.3. Sad that Jan isn’t doing it but I guess he knows he can’t do this kind of double anymore or just doesn’t want to risk it this year for his Kona comeback. I have to imagine he will go for NZ next year given timing (and that he winters in Australia)
I think for european based athletes it’s a very race. Maybe only takes a day or 2 out of your schedule. If you are coming from West Coast USA/Asia then maybe doesn’t make as much sense?
AB is down for 70.3 Dun Loaghaire. Should give a better indication of his form as it feels as if he’s untested this year.
Not the greatest field, but a few such as Tim Don. I guess the biggest takeaway is that he’s going all in for the 70.3/Kona double, not dabbling with ITU Grand Final or Tokyo test event.
Feels like a decisive move.

No love the Blummenfeldt? Doesn’t have the fastest 70.3 or the record at the distance? I would bet on Brownlee though if it’s not too hot.

Are you trolling? Both men’s and women’s fields are absolutely stacked. The only top pro missing is Frodo. This will be a GREAT race
