NHL suspensions/non-suspensions

To my eyes DPS hasn’t got one wrong yet this week.

Time to test your eyes. Ovechkin’s hit last night on Islander Pageau. No penalty was assessed. It was reviewed. Pageau returned to play. It inspired a shift in play and tilted the ice our way. Ovi is a past offender. He has probably missed more games due to suspension than injury over his long career.

What say the folks in The Toronto NHL Peanut Gallery? Shoulder to upper body clean hit or leniency given his approaching legend status?

Sorry, I can’t post videos.

It has been quiet of late. Mid-season approaching all star break lull in action?

I only saw it quickly earlier. Looked like it could have been maybe a boarding penalty but I wouldn’t say a suspension was warranted.

How old are you and what level of hockey did you get to? Honest question. There is a big gap on what people’s thoughts are on hitting and other penalties depending on how old you are and if you played competitively.

I got called for a hooking penalty in adult league, bitched about it and then realized most of the people I’m playing against grew up post clutch and grab and that probably was a legit penalty.

I have no problem with that hit. Just because someone get hurts it wasn’t illegal. It wasn’t to the head. He was facing him when he got hit. There is a new USA hockey rule that if you’re under those, that is an illegal hit. But NHL is completely fine in my view.

Just leave it as I am older than most and never played. Hockey first came on my radar with Broad Street Bullies of '74-75. I understand fully the difference in how the game is played now. Used to skate but not now. played all the sports as a youth and my first impression of hockey players was that they are the most talented and skillful athletes out there. My Ovi question was simply to gauge whether the rest of the league watchers thought it crossed the line with a near head shot and in close proximity to the boards and how close the puck was to the hit. I was hoping for a clean call and no league review but wondered if Ovi could be receiving special rules treatment because of his star status. Yours and BLeP’s response confirms clean . Thanks.

Suspended for demanding a blowjob on a hot mic.

We have brought shame to Gritty’s good name.

Hockey fans, and the world in general, are surprised that someone from Philly could be so crass.

Hockey fans, and the world in general, are surprised that there’s anything crass enough that someone from Philly would get suspended for it.

Gotta think a suspension or two came out of this on.

Also the greatest hockey video of all time.

  1. No adults anywhere to be seen?
  2. I blame the parents
  3. The peasants cheering them on should be ashamed
  4. All of those kids should be suspended permanently

I agree, but also found myself singing ”it’s the good ol hockey game, it’s the best game you can name…” while watching that video.
