Hi All,
I wanted to post the letter I sent to everyone explaining the demise of the 2007 Sea to Summit race.
Thanks
Jeff
Hi Everyone,
After months of introspection I have come to the conclusion I have taken on
too many responsibilities next summer and something has got to give. I
also wasn’t happy with the way last years race turned out when it came to
the safety of the competitors. We need to revamp the entire race in order
for it to be safer and I do not have the energy or desire to do this next
year.
After talking with Tom Cross, we both feel the need to step back and take a
year off from the race. We will revisit the idea of a 2008 race next
summer.
I realize many of you do this race year after year and I am truely sorry
not being able offer the race again for 2007.
no doubt we could get lots more interested if it were a swim. Unfortunately, we would get a lot more killed when they bonk at the base of Tuckermans Ravine at 5PM (having raced for 10 hours) with temps dropping into the 30’s and wind speed picking up into the 50 MPH range. This happened to two athletes this year and our sweep person saved them.
This sounds like a great race. It must be a lot of work for you to prodce, so take a well deserved year off. I would like to do this race someday, but as others have said changing kayak to swim could make for an interesting race. Something like a “World’s Toughest (Most Dangerous?) Triathlon.”
