NFL 2026 offseason and draft

What’s happening with your team? Who will they choose in the draft? Any free agents? March 11th is the beginning of the new year.

Per The Athletic: The Arizona Cardinals have informed quarterback Kyler Murray that they plan to release him, barring a trade, next week on the first day of the new league year, league sources confirmed to The Athletic on Tuesday.

Chiefs: Travis Kelce, will he or won’t he? I think he’ll be back. Supposedly the wedding is June 13, 2026. Back in time for training camp.

Well our starting center just retired out if nowhere today

Wow - after signing a 3 year deal last year.

Will anyone pay Kyler Murray starting QB kind of money? Miami maybe?

The best he can hope for is a Sam Darnold prove your worth contract.

OTOH, the Jets or Browns may make him the highest paid player.

Murray has offset language in his contract so he will sign for the league minimum somewhere. See Russell Wilson when he went to Denver. It will more importantly let him decide to go to a better contending situation if he wants - maybe Minnesota or Atlanta?

Are they going to make him watch film?

I am a Bengals fan, I am sure Mike Brown will make the best decisions for the team to improve.

If I’m Minnesota I take a flyer on him. O’Connell can probably resurrect his career.

ARGH!!! Is it April Fool’s Day?

The Kansas City Chiefs have traded All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams for a draft haul that includes a 2026 first-round pick, a league source told The Athletic.

McDuffie, 25, was a first-round pick of the Chiefs in 2022 and was set to play on his fifth-year rookie option this season. He’ll now get a chance to sign long term with the Rams and play close to his hometown of Westminster, Calif.

The Chiefs will receive one of the Rams’ first-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft (No. 29) along with a 2026 fifth- and sixth-round pick. The Rams will also send a 2027 third-round pick to the Chiefs.

Your aging stars suck up too much money

They are fixing that – restructuring Patrick Mahomes’ contract, releasing veterans. We should have nine draft pickes this year – two in the first round, one each in the second, third and fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Patriots release Stefon Diggs after one year

In a cost-saving move, the New England Patriots are releasing wide receiver Stefon Diggs after one year, league sources confirmed to The Athletic. Diggs’ lone campaign with the Pats was a productive one, but the looming cap hit of $26.5 million that he would’ve been in line for in 2026 prompted the transaction.

A cost saving move, I’m sure.

Like underinflating footballs was a repetitive motion injury reduction initiative.

If you want to have fun, try to predict the QB musical chairs.

This year’s draft sucks, so:

Mendoza to the Raiders.

I think there are about 12 QBs on the free agent market of which maybe half that can really be starters.

I think someone will pay him but he’s starting to look like an aging Russell Wilson.

From The Athletic:

The QB-team marriages that won’t be affected this offseason.

Player Team
Brock Purdy 49ers
Caleb Williams Bears
Joe Burrow Bengals
Josh Allen Bills
Bo Nix Broncos
Baker Mayfield Buccaneers
Justin Herbert Chargers
Patrick Mahomes Chiefs
Jayden Daniels Commanders
Dak Prescott Cowboys
Jalen Hurts Eagles
Jaxson Dart Giants
Trevor Lawrence Jaguars
Jared Goff Lions
Jordan Love Packers
Drake Maye Patriots
Matthew Stafford Rams
Lamar Jackson Ravens
Sam Darnold Seahawks
CJ Stroud Texans
Cam Ward Titans

Safe, but something to prove

A pair of QBs who earned the right to start in 2026 — and, if they perform, beyond.

Player Team
Tyler Shough Saints
Bryce Young Panthers

To be determined

The Atlanta Falcons could go either way in light of their injured third-year QB.

Player Team
Michael Penix Jr. Falcons

That leaves eight teams Open for Business:

  • Browns

  • Cardinals

  • Colts

  • Dolphins

  • Jets

  • Raiders

  • Steelers

  • Vikings

Raiders get Mendoza, only question is how long Geno sticks around.

Rodgers will probably not confirm if he’s playing or not until the last possible minute.

Derek Carr is supposedly considering trying again.

Kyler / Tua / Daniel Jones will probably all shuffle around. I don’t really see any of the remaining ones as starting quality. I am not on top of which teams have cap space right now, so there’s that.

edit: I forgot Malik Willis and Kirk Cousins

I don’t know that Burrow in Cincy is a sure thing, but I haven’t heard much about it either way since his comments that prompted speculation.
