any feedback/comments based on wearing them for a full 26.2??
The longest race I have done with my Newton’s cushioning distance racer was the Ottawa half marathon last month. I was very happy with them. For me the real test will be this Saturday when I do the half marathon run at the Tupper Lake Triathalon. One aspect of these shoes that I have not seen discussed here pertains to what happen when you go from peddling with the ball of your foot for 56 miles and then run for 13.1 miles on the ball of your foot. For me the cleat on my Carmac bike shoe is in the same place as where those red rubber strips are on my Newtons and I am hoping that this will make the transition from biking to running better. Time will tell. Tim

Seems like a recipe for disaster to me. I’ve tried Newton’s on brick runs and the lug position doesn’t allow my feet to loosen up from the stress of the cleats and I’m cramping by the second mile. Great shoes for running races, but I’m not sold on them for tris. Let us know how it goes. I’m really curious!

Mr Boyce, the AG Masters’ winner at IMCdA ran in them apparently. Look in the recent thread on power data for IMCdA for his comments. I think he said he wouldn’t do another IM in them due to the lack of cushion and/or support.
With nearly 4 hours of running at IMCDA (3:55:22) I was impressed with Newton’s. I had no blister or foot issues. I weight 155 lbs. and ran the Cushion Racer model.
Thank you for your imput. Do you think that it is a positive thing that your run is done on the same part of the foot as where the bike shoe cleat is (forefoot striking vrs heel strinking)? Tim
I saw quite a few Newtons on the run course at BSLT 70.3. Unfortunately, most of them were heel striking and getting out run by folks wearing regular old racing flats…
I am not sure I buy into the foot ~ cleat issue as truly being an issue. A properly fitted bike shoe should distribute the load across the foot platform. I tend to be more of a midfoot striker and Newton’s seem to help me.
correct. great shoes but even going back to regular laces versus elastic I think I’d still have the same friction issues on the balls of my feet.
